  1. 1st May 2026 | New Delhi

A Full moon, seen through the tops of trees.

Buddh Poorinima in India & the first of the two Micro-Moon's in May 26. The next one is on 31st May (yaay). Could not make out the "mini-ness"

Around moon rise we could hear the call / song of an Indian Peafowl, Asian Koel, House Crows & a Brown-headed Barbet. Some dogs were barking too generally nothing to do with the moon

  6. A #MiniMoon that wasn't: the 'asteroid' 2025 US6 - minorplanetcenter.net/mpec/K25, retracted in minorplanetcenter.net/mpec/K25 - has been swiftly ID'd as the Chinese lunar test satellite Distant Retrograde Orbit (DRO) B: groups.io/g/mpml/topic/1159590. Here is its fun orbit around the Earth in an animation: bsky.app/profile/tony873004.bs

we hope that the golden sun of vergina will shed light on the obscurantism and defensiveness that has plagued the scientific research so far for tombs I and II.

  10. Got any #astrology related implications to gaining a temporary #minimoon that would be fun to share?

  11. Reminder: We're (briefly) getting a new (mini) moon today!

"[T]he 10-meter-wide object, dubbed 2024 PT5 [...] will be some 1.5 million kilometers away [...] it will enter a curving, captive path around our world rather than slipping Earth’s surly bonds. At that point, 2024 PT5 will become another satellite of Earth—a so-called mini moon."

  12. Earth is getting a temporary "mini moon" this weekend. The asteroid 2024 PT5, discovered in early August, will pass close enough to the Earth to be captured into an orbit, but will be perturbed out of it by late November. The asteroid is about 10 meters across and could be a piece of lunar ejecta or even space junk, astronomers state. "It's as if you are taking a long walk in the woods and a dog comes along and joins you for a while, before wandering away," said one scientist. "During that time, you had a companion, but it is not your dog." skyandtelescope.org/astronomy-

  13. Of course, you won’t really be able to “say hello” without a professional telescope. At 33 feet long, the #MiniMoon is too mini for our eyes. Its closest approach is still 5X farther than our permanent, non-mini moon. That challenge, though, makes it all the more exciting that scientists are able to detect the tiny rock in the first place.

  14. For the next 2 months, an unusual object about the size of a bus will be orbiting above our heads. Say hello to Earth’s temporary new #MiniMoon.

Sept 29 – Nov 25, a passing #asteroid will be pulled in by Earth’s gravity before returning to its normal orbit around the sun. Objects that get captured by our gravitational force for a short time are known as mini-moons. Asteroid #2024PT5, came from the Arjuna asteroid belt near our sun, ~93M miles away.

  15. "...an asteroid [2024 PT5 ] roughly the length of a city bus will be captured by Earth’s gravitational pull and orbit our planet for about 2 months, becoming a “mini moon”... from 29 September until 25 November before returning to its home, an asteroid belt revolving around the sun"
"The asteroid was discovered on 7 August by the Asteroid Terrestrial-Impact Last Alert System (Atlas), a Nasa-funded program"
