I have written sophisticated spreadsheets... Including a full double entry accounting system with General Ledger and reporting...

So I totally see the appeal.
But for real joy I use my own homebake #mindmaps

Spreadsheets fill an important gap in Corpo ecosystem.
Too big for a query/report
Too small for a full blown app.

Wenn man MM am PC entwirft, haben die im Gegensatz zu Birkenbihl den Nachteil, auf eine Baumstruktur festgelegt zu werden, was in der Sache Unfug ist. MM am PC sind deshalb nur eine dürftige Krücke dessen, was Birkenbihl beschreibt. 1/x

Made the switch to #mindmaps and #visualthinking in MindNode mid-last year for aesthetics and the ability to sync task nodes with Reminders, but iThoughts offers features that MindNode still lacks (e.g. targeting specific nodes through a URL scheme).

Sad to see Toketaware go. iThoughts will continue to function until a future #iPadOS #iOS #macOS update breaks something.

Hallo #eduRLP und @PL_RLP, wer kann mir bei #Mindmaps im #Schulcampus weiterhelfen? Ich habe unter "Meine Dateien" mit dem + eine neue Campus-Tafel erstellt und dann in der "Werkzeugkategorie" Büroklammer auf Mindmap geklickt. Im Gegensatz zum URL-Frame passiert überhaupt nichts.

Sortiert sich diese Mindmap automatisch um wenn ein neuer Hauptast eingefügt wird?

I've never taken pre-installed apps seriously much less on a phone from a brand like #Xiaomi.

But... just for fun, I took a look at the built-in notes app. And it's impressive. #MindMaps (also available as an outliner), tasks, quick save mode of selected text fragments from any application (what is important is not "one selection one note", but in one note you can save many quotes/fragments/items).

@purplepadma If you don't already know the technique, you might find Mind Maps helpful. I find them a useful planning tool and my wife can use them to take (lecture etc.) notes. @markmcelroy Love #mindmaps especially the non-linear aspect of them. Many say they can handle their todo list on a basic text only, top-down Notes app. I cannot; I need multiple columns, visual separation, a way to add images/icons to differentiate between priorities. Mindmaps do that perfectly. I'm using SimpleMind, which is great for this.

#ObsidianMD is such a #rabbithole. The deeper you go in, the deeper it gets.
I am at a point where i cannot live without it anymore.
Whether #payload planning, #todolists, #notes or #mindmaps, obsidian can do it all.
I am pretty sure i am using less than 20% of whats it capable and i am already loving it.

The text based nature of #Obsidian notes concerns me... because the only way I could remember what I studied is through mind maps. I got an A in pre-law by condensing a chapter in 1 page. The challenge of doing this forced me to remember what I studied in a vivid way.

I did it with good old pen and paper, and I doodled and drew. My notes were little works of art 🤣 and it was very easy for me to revise cos all I needed was a couple of pages of notes.

Maybe try a map?

First a hat tip to Austin Kleon. His most-recent post, Do you have a nemesis? included a mind map, which is the most-recent of the countless times I’ve encountered mind mapping. I’m a fan of Kleon for many reasons, not least of which is that he, like me, flouts the usual guidelines for the capitalization of one’s titles.

I’ve tried mind mapping a few times. (What’s that? Did I overdo it with software and processes? …yes, of course!) Today, I was feeling unmotivated to write for Open + Curious. I thought, “Just start. JUST START!” But I simply didn’t want to face the blank screen of the digital document.

Instead, I opened my idea garden wherein I capture interesting nuggets to be seeds for future writing. In my garden, I rarely (I first wrote “never,” but I don’t want to jinx myself) have trouble finding a nugget to write about. I grabbed my favorite pen, and flipped to a blank sheet in the little binder I keep. So much action! I felt like I was already writing. /s

On that mind map I wrote the “something new” at the center. It’s not a meaningless bit of meta; it’s the central idea from a captured nugget. At this point, staring at the paper with my pen in hand felt great, versus facing a digital document which always feels too structured for me to think in. (ref. Sönke Ahrens.) In just a few minutes of thinking and scribbling I had all those bubbles. Then I had a title. …then a route. …an outline. And from there the writing felt doable.
