  1. It’s worthwhile picking up the annotated cookbooks even if the covers have gotten a bit rough. #mincemeat

  2. As a gay of a certain time and place, I have only ever heard of Fanny Cradock, as though some kind of very mythical, very camp entity. Tonight, for the first time, I have seen her - on BBC Four, making manky Christmas mincemeat everything.

    Here, for example, she is making in her inimitable way AN OMLETTE into which she has added a feck-load of mincemeat, *and* which she smothered in sifted icing. I want to gag, and I love her.

  3. Anyone in here make their own mincemeat? I've got very expensive brandy and cheap sherry. Leaning towards the cheap sherry. Anyone ?

  4. Spotted two jars of #mincemeat reduced to 37p each at Attleborough Co-Op yesterday so snapped them up and am #baking a trayful of these lush Mincemeat Crumble Bars ☺️

    Perfect to ward off a rather miserably grey day!

  5. My best results for #GlutenFree #baking lately involve:

    * Using 1/2 Bob's GF Flour & 1/2 almond flour
    * Adding an extra egg

    This has worked very well for a carrot cake & a banana bread. The extra egg seems to balance out the lack of stickiness in the almond flour. 🙂

    (Note: If you make carrot cake with rainbow carrots, you can decorate the icing with little shavings of the carrots - they look like flowers!)

    Back at Christmas, I made gluten-free #vegetarian #ChristmasPudding (using shortening for the suet, and GF breadcrumbs and nut-flour), and #mincemeat pie with a sautéed mushroom & walnut substitution for the usual, actual meat in the filling and a GF crust (I used an Italian sweet crust recipe and added an egg so it didn't fall apart). I love making some aggressively non-vegetarian recipes from the early 19th century, but I have vegetarian friends, so I improvise! 😁

    Shout-out to the #MasterAndCommander cookbook.😏
