  1. December's cocktail pie - Winter Cocktail Mince Pies

A Winter Cocktail contains Jamaican rum, lime, sugar, ginger liqueur, pimento dram and Angostura bitters.

My pies are a Winter Cocktail Mincemeat (raisins, sultanas, rum, ango, candied lime, stem ginger, allspice) in an allspice and lime sweet shortcrust pastry.

  2. 𝗗𝗶𝗱 𝗖𝗿𝗼𝗺𝘄𝗲𝗹𝗹 𝗥𝗲𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘆 𝗕𝗮𝗻 𝗠𝗶𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗣𝗶𝗲𝘀?
Did Oliver Cromwell really ban mince pies and Christmas in England? This persistent historical myth has been repeated for centuries, but the truth behind the famous Puritan leader's alleged war on festive food is far more complicated than you might think!

  3. CW: mince pie opinions!

    @MamaLake

I have had many a mince pie!

I can't cast 1 vote for good or meh, because it really depends on the pie and the prep.

I prefer flaky pastry (most are shortcrust) and I prefer a filling that doesn't include candied peel.

The best way to eat one in my opinion is hot, in a bowl with cream poured over, and maybe also a scoop of vanilla ice cream.

This treat is a whole other level from a shortcrust one cold out of the packet :-)

  4. What are the best #MincePies this year? For my sins I’ve only tried the standard Tesco Finest so far, normally they’re a solid bet but they felt a bit bland. Recommend me your favourite #MincePie please!

  5. This "free from" mince pie is free from mincemeat too. What a con.

  6. My second batch (this year) of Christmas mince pies! This time with a crumble topping. Plenty of time in the kitchen today as Storm Claudia lashes the U.K. #christmas #baking #mincepies

  7. My first batch (this year) of Christmas mince pies! Another advantage of retirement - plenty of time to do little jobs like this and get ready early for Christmas. #christmas #baking #mincepies

  8. This is the first time I felt that an Odlums recipe left me down, the dough was quite difficult to work with, and they didn't come out of the tin cleanly.

    Still tasty.

  9. Who still has #MincePies left over from #Christmas?
I am busy working my way through the last two packs.

  10. 'Tis the season and all that. Time for mince pies!

Deep filled, buttery shortcrust pastry case, crumbly and dusted with sugar with a fragrant mix of dried fruits, aromatic spices. From its humble beginnings as a savory Christmas pie centuries ago, the modern mince pie has transformed into a beloved sweet treat.

  11. Mince pies are of English origin, but today they are very different to how they were when they first appear in England.

The idea of mixing meat with fruit and spices, is no doubt thanks to the returning crusaders in the 13th century, who were trying to recreate, what they had seen and tasted whilst away.

Tradition states that if you eat at least one mince pie everyday during the 12 days of Christmas you will have good luck for the next 12 months. #mincepies #Christmas

  12. Just finished my first box of mince pies of the season. My wife makes excellent ones, but she’s barely stewed the first apple for her mincemeat, so these excellent ones from Cook will have to do.

  13. Sweet Mince Pies (Greggs).

Today I changed my Mastodon header picture to something more festive!

Sketched in a Milton Keynes branch of the Greggs bakery chain, while I was waiting for a friend to finish shopping.

  14. in that spirit - any personal favorite recipes for #mincepies?

  15. Another #MincePies review, this time the Sainsbury’s Taste The Difference mini mince pies. Nice buttery pastry, decent boozy taste to the filling. Lacking in spice slightly, but the major detractor was the texture of the filling. Quite bitty and not enjoyable to eat at all.
