"The stories he shares here are wonderful, but you’ve got to see and hear Ed to really appreciate just how incredible he was on stage, show after show, park after park, year after year, acting and singing truth to power," writes Gene Kahane about his latest interviewee, Ed Holmes. https://alamedapost.com/features/alameda-life/5q4-ed-holmes/

"The new mayor began his term by tackling the 1,500 annual traffic-related deaths in the city. He seemed to abide by an old theater saying: If the show isn’t going well, send in the clowns. Ever the political performer, Mockus did just that.
The mayor gave 1,800 traffic cops the boot and hired a meager clan of 20 mimes. Armed with nothing but signs that read correcto and incorrecto, the silent troupe theatrically mocked lawbreakers and applauded polite motorists. A system purely based on public approval was on trial in Mockus’s so-called classroom. And it worked.
'Rather than strength or physical violence to get people to cross the street in the right place, he used behavioral change—and this was powerful,' says Paulius Yamin, a behavioral scientist and Mockus’s former research assistant. 'There are not always going to be police on every corner, but there are always citizens, and people care about what others think about them.'
(. . .)
As Bogotá’s civic culture transformed, traffic violence decreased by 50 percent.
In the 30 years since, traffic mimes have spread to other Latin American capitals with much success: Caracas, Lima, Tegucigalpa. La Paz even introduced traffic zebras."

Rescue Dex: Escape to Mess Manor p.25 to 28
When McBane finally understands what Dex is talking about he thinks it's hilarious. Greg laughs at Dex for thinking Supers are real. Everyone knows that they are Mythical like Zebras, they are imaginary.
When Dex protests that Zebras are real, Greg just tries to calm him in a patronizing manner, as he knows very well they certainly are not . Zebras, like Supers, simply don't exist. Dex reveals that he himself is a Super, and that he used his powers to heal Greg. Which disappoints McBane a little, because he thought Dex's scientifical healing machine thingy was most cool.
McBane is forced to admit that Supers, unlike Zebras, are indeed real.
Suddenly, Dex realizes that Killer Mimes have crept up on them unexpectedly as they spoke to one another. Greg confronts the threatening Mimes and realizes they are just illusions intended to chase them into the arms of a pack of knife wielding thugs in Hoodies, The Hunters!
Confident that Dex can protect them with his super Powers, Greg talks shit to the hunters until Dex advises him to run like hell. Dex was counting on the Goshawks to come to his rescue as they had planned, but they are distracted for some reason and don't notice that Dex needs them. After a frightening chase, the two are cornered by the Slender Man and Greg tells Dex there are too many to fight.
Greg asks Dex to save himself and escape while he holds them back to give him time. Dex refuses to run and both are captured by the Hunters after McBane puts up a furious fight over the unconscious body of Dex.

CW: NSFW peril bondage
Rescue Dex: Escape to Mess Manor p. 21 to 24
Next morning at the hospital, as Dex goes about his rounds, he sees Greg taking a man to physical rehab and is most surprised to learn Greg has been a volunteer orderly at his hospital but faints at the sight of blood. So, Greg like avoids the emergency room where Dex works.
Distressed-Mess is skeptical that McBane is telling the truth ( being an evil Jock after all) , so Dex asks Greg to meet him after work (so he can like make sure Greg isn’t involved). Greg has swim practice, but agrees to meet Dex afterwards at the Art Bar, a local college bar in Five Points.
Dex goes to see his friend, the super heroine Ace, who has lightning powers to ask for advice. Ace warns Dex that Greg has been touched by evil darkness, but is still good. But he could turn to the dark side if he gives in to the Evil taint within him.
Worried that Dex is no match for the physically powerful McBane, she gives him a weapon: “The Baseball Bat of Destiny” which was made from a living branch of eternal Yggdrasil, the sacred tree of life. It has the power of life and death over Jocks.
Realizing the Art Bar is like way too crowded with innocent bystanders if he gets into a fight with McBane, Dex decided to meet him on the street before he gets there. Greg unexpectedly bumps into Dex and delightedly grabs the bat away out of his hands, marveling at how most awesome and Rad the antique bat is.
After Greg gives Dex his bat back, Dex tries to question Greg but the clueless Jock doesn’t seem to understand what Dex is talking about thus proving his probable innocence. in the background, the duo is unaware of a group of sinister strangers creeping up behind them.
