Kingston Grist Mill in Fresh Snow
The hard line where red clapboard meets white accumulation. The boundary between frozen millpond and moving water beneath. I'd gone out that morning for birds along the Delaware and Raritan Canal—long lens, specific intent. But after I'd finished near Carnegie Lake Dam, at the car I swapped the XF150-600mm for the XF27mm and went back to Kingston Grist Mill. The snow had transformed the woods that enveloped Heathcote Brook. That barn-red siding, usually just pleasant, now demanded my […] -

Low-Water Level at Bowen Park
I went for a short walk in Bowen Park this morning and noticed that the water level in the Millstone River was very low. At one point, following the sound of trickling water, I went off the main pathway onto what I thought was a trail but it eventually dead-ended, so I turned around.
As I did that, I surprised a young man who said he was doing some carving, seated in a space between some large rocks. Actually, I think we surprised each other. Once we had said “hello” and assured ourselves neither of us was a threat, I went on my way. I never did see what he was carving.

Waddle Waddle, Quack Quack, …
After visiting the gulls near the boathouse at Lake Carnegie, I crossed over to the Kingston Mill Historic District. The Millstone River and Lake Carnegie Dam reveal a gathering of geese and ducks—still water, soft light.

Kingston Grist Mill at Kingston Mill Historic District
21 December 2024 The world outside my window was a serene winter wonderland. A light snowstorm the previous day had blanketed the area transforming the landscape into a postcard-perfect scene. The crisp, clear air and deep blue sky were an irresistible call to explore, camera in hand. My destination was the Kingston Grist Mill, located in the heart of the Kingston Mill Historic District, a place steeped in both history and natural beauty. Bowen Park After a Rainstorm
I enjoyed a lovely walk in Bowen Park, Nanaimo, this morning. We have had heavy rain for a few days so it was nice to be able to get out and about again. The wet leaves on the trail made walking a little tricky, but it was otherwise fine and a delight to see the river so full.
