#Chiquita #Banana is still attempting to delay a 17 year running #CivilCase filed for paying a Colombian #DeathSquad #MilitiaGroup over a million dollars for "security". The US Govt has verified the #paramilitary group was responsible for the #massacres of hundreds of civilians as well as #kidnappings and displacing indigenous communities. In a 2007 #CriminalTrial, Chiquita plead guilty to financing a designated global #terrorist group, and agreed to pay a $25 million fine , but has since used an army of lawyers to long delay a civil case filed against it by multiple victims families.
Once known as United Fruit Co in previous decades, CIA hit squads of the 50s led to 1990s death squads, and PR pushes to make the company better known known for its #FreshExpress supermarket salad line than its human rights violations. Half owned since 2014 by a billionairess with dual Greek and Brazilian citizenship living in Switzerland, Chiquita is just one asset of the multinational Safra Banking empire.
