To conclude this 100-day thread dedicated to Miles Davis's music, I chose this song, composed by Ray Henderson in 1926, the same year Miles Davis was born:
Bye bye blackbird
This 1963 version, live in Juan Les Pins, features the second great quintet, and seems to be the last time they recorded it. (Two concerts they did on the following days before returning to New York haven't been recorded.)
The choruses are simultaneously free and fluid. We have George Coleman on tenor saxophone, Ron Carter on bass, Tony Williams on drums, Herbie Hancock on piano, and, of course, Miles Davis on trumpet.
He was born on May 26, 1926, died on September 28, 1991, and his music will long remain a driving force for all jazz musicians.
