I’m sitting in Lion Café in #MileEnd, having a coffee and reading the papers. This place would normally be bustling with passing trade from the local bus stop, but the stop is closed due to the Thames Water works that are now expected to continue until the middle of August.
I’ve advised that there is a scheme for business disruption and I hope the owners can stay afloat while they apply and wait for a decision.

"Joie de Livres" est ENFIN ouverte ! La librairie a fini les travaux il y a quelques jours.
C'est la seule libraire spécialisée dans les littératures de l'imaginaire à #Montreal : #fantasy #fantastique #Scifi #horreur #romance - et c'est une librairie bilingue.
Le projet prend la suite de la librairie Saga, fermée en décembre dernier. Une partie de l'équipe s'y retrouve, et sa communauté également.

It's the only bookshop specializing in speculative fiction in #Montreal: #fantasy #Scifi #horror #romance - and it's a bilingual bookshop.
The project takes over from the Saga bookshop, which closed last December. Part of the team is back, and so is its community.

1. Soirée sur la sécurité des piétons, le 7 mai au RialtoCette assemblée était organisée par le Comité des citoyens du Mile End, CCME, suite au décès d’un jeune de la communauté hassidique, au coin de l’avenue du Parc et de la rue Bernard. Le CCME avait auparavant rencontré deux membres de cette communauté pour les tenir informés et pour pouvoir compter sur leur participation. C’est ainsi que plus de 70 personnes se sont retrouvées ensemble au Rialto. Récemment, M. Devin Ashton-Beaucage a publié dans Mon Plateau un superbe article qui couvre bien la soirée. Mon Plateau est un site web et une infolettre qui offrent des nouvelles hyperlocales du Mile End, de Milton Parc et du Plateau
En résumé, il a beaucoup été question d’éducation et de sensibilisation de tous les usagers de nos rues, piétons, cyclistes et automobilistes afin de préserver la sécurité de tous. Comme l’a dit Bartek Komorovsky, chef d’équipe de division des stratégies de mobilité durable pour la ville de Montréal : « Ce qui est vraiment important, c’est que les différents usagers de la route, qu’ils soient piétons, cyclistes ou automobilistes, puissent se voir et être vus, afin de pouvoir s’éviter ».
De plus, il y a eu nombre de suggestions émises par l’assistance ou les spécialistes invités à enrichir les débats.
Le commandant M. Sylvain Malo, du Service de police de Montréal a demandé à l’assistance de communiquer avec son service pour indiquer les situations ou lieux dangereux afin de prioriser les interventions/contrôles policières à faire.

Les saillies de trottoirs sur les artères principales comme l’avenue du Parc
Les deux pistes cyclables et l’étroitesse des trottoirs sur la rue Jeanne-Mance
L’éclairage insuffisant sur la plupart des rues
Le manque de cinémomètres ou radars pour pouvoir repérer les automobilistes qui roulent trop vite et les sanctionner
Les marquages au sol, presque invisibles, des passages piétonniers…Le CCME compte bien suivre ce dossier et veiller à ce que certaines recommandations puissent être étudiées et mises en application dans des délais raisonnables.
