  6. Apparently today is 40 years since Mike + The Mechanics’ debut single “Silent Running” entered the Billboard Hot 100.

    I was only 6 at the time, and I discovered them a few years later. Their tapes were among the first I bought as a kid - and I still have them!

    I don't think there's a single other band that I loved back then as much I do now.

It was released in December 1988 in the United Kingdom and in the United States as the second single from their album #LivingYears. The #ballad was a worldwide chart hit, topping the US #Billboard Hot 100 on 25 March 1989, the band's only number one and last top ten hit on that chart, and reaching number-one in Australia, Canada.
