  1. My migraines triggered by not getting the exactly right amount of sleep seem to develop on the opposite side of my head as migraines triggered by other stuff.

Does this happen to anyone else? And do you also get a little grumpy at not feeling pain in the usual places because that’s not how these things are supposed to go? 😂🤦🏻‍♀️

  3. question: does anyone know if any neurologists or headache experts would be interested in my notes and observations surrounding my migraines? like in an scientific/academic sense?

one of my scientist friends who i shared them with said i should consider reaching out to somebody since theyre so in-depth and ive been documenting my migraines for years. but idk how to do that or if there would actually be any interest lol

    boosts appreciated! 🙏

  7. CW: Medical stuff (Migraine)

I’ve successfully crossed over into the sleepy postdrome stage of the migraine cycle. #MigraineChat #Migraine

  9. CW: Migraine, Seasonal allergies (Good news)

Last March I had more migraines than usual because the weather was changing and seasonal allergies are one of my triggers.

This year I started allergy medications earlier and used them regularly as soon as the weather started warming up.

So far I have not noticed any upswing in migraines this March. I had a few prodrome symptoms this week, but they never escalated like they typically would.

Fingers crossed it remains this way!

  11. CW: Migraines

I wish there were more stories about characters who have #Migraines.

I think Marilla from #AnneOfGreenGables probably had migraines based the descriptions of her terrible “headaches” that sent her to her room for long periods of time.

What other books, films, songs, etc. can you recommend about characters who have a #Migraine or who you suspect did have them?

  13. CW: Migraine

Today I’m feeling grateful for my #Migraine meds and wondering how soon the #Postdrome symptoms will fully fade away. My neck and shoulder are still pretty stiff and sore. Thank goodness for heating pads, eh?

Emgality has been similar for me.

My migraine has been permanent since mid-2017. I had to stop Botox in 2019 as my CRPS started sensitising the injection sites, and with only oral meds things were bad for a while.

Finally Emgality went on the Australian Pharmaceutical Benefit Scheme so I could afford it. It has brought my baseline migraine down a few levels, and made flares less likely and not as extreme or long-lasting. But it is not the magic solution for me!

  16. A statistic of my #migraine last year.
194 in total. Cool cool cool.

In March I started Aimovig. You can see a wonderful placebo effect there, that unfortunately didn't last long 😬😜 (but it made the migraines less severe. Before I was like a 6 to 7 daily, now they're like 3 to 5, so that's a win still 👍)

I'm gonna try to get botox in 2023, because I've tried everything else that's avaliable in Germany, a lot of the meds even twice or thrive in the last 20 years.

  17. CW: Masks and Migraine/Headache Triggers

The other day I tried a style of KN95 mask that has two tight bands that loop around the back of your head.

I started feeling an awful headache developing within minutes. It started in the same spot my migraines do, too.

Has anyone else in the #MigraineChat community noticed that their head hates certain types of masks?

(To clarify, I am still wearing a mask every time I go out. I just cannot wear that particular style of mask).

  20. @bennessb
Late to the intro party, but hello #NEISvoid 👋🏼 I’m Beth (I also post @beth_morton).

I moderate #MigraineChat spaces (see my About links), live with chronic #migraine, IBS, likely psoriatic #arthritis and a few other straggling conditions that are annoying, but not as disabling.

I live in the northeast US, hate winter, love my cat, and do some freelance research/advocacy work when I feel up to it.

  21. I blocked off some time Saturday afternoon (ET) for a little virtual #MigraineChat #NYE chit chat for anyone who doesn’t have plans and wants to socialize a bit.

I’m not posting the link publicly, but comment below and I will send you the Google Meet link. 💜

I might also pick a movie to #Teleparty on Sunday. Any interest? Movie suggestions?

  23. CW: Migraine, Migraine Triggers, New Year’s Eve

I want to stay up until midnight on Saturday to greet the new year, but messing around with my sleep schedule and/or not getting enough sleep in general is one of my #migraine triggers.

I think I’ll need to choose getting enough rest over staying up late.

    How about all of you?

  24. CW: food & migraine

whenever my migraine flares up (like today), my body just asks for potato chips and hydralyte. the first one feels counterintuitive, but it often helps? weird but i'm into it #MigraineChat

  25. CW: Food, Migraine

I’m in the prodrome stage of a #migraine today and have the worst cravings for chocolate and potato chips. Someone send me all of the #DairyFree treats. Haha. #migrainechat

  26. For anyone in the #NEISvoid with (diagnosed or suspected) #headache conditions, not just #migraine, please know the #MigraineChat Discord server would love to have you while things get sorted in the new Void server. I mean, we’d love to have you anyway, but especially now. 💜

  27. CW: Gut-Brain Health and Pain Medications

    The tl;dr:
    - In mice, gut mucosal producing cells contain receptors activated by #CGRP, a neuropeptide released in response to pain.
    - Blocking those receptors might mean the gut won’t get the “message” to make more mucus, necessary for gut health.
    - Anti-CGRP medications are used to block CGRP (receptors or the molecule itself) in #migraine, to prevent migraine attacks.

  29. @Laniebird91 #ChronicMigraine here! I'm trying rebuild the #MigraineChat community on here, so if you might find that helpful feel free to follow me, the hashtag or the @migrainechatgroup. 💜

  30. You can also follow the #MigraineChat hashtag. At least on desktop Mastodon, once you search a hashtag, you can then click the follow icon to see future posts.

  31. Like many, I'm new here. So I'm testing ways to make #MigraineChat work best on Mastodon.

The purpose of MigraineChat has been to provide space to get #migraine-related advice -or- to vent without receiving advice. In this way, it mirrors the #NEISvoid.

I believe you have two options for tagging your migraine posts:
    - include @migrainechat to tag me (this account) so I can boost and/or
    - tag the group I made @migrainechatgroup and follow it to see posts of others who use the tag, too.

  33. CW: Voluntary survey for photosensitive social media users
