There were so many delicate spring flowers blooming at the Fells trails today, but this one caught my curiosity. My phone suggests it’s Amelanchier, or serviceberry.

It was a perfectly comfy spring day yesterday except there was still snow on the ground, which halted us from hiking farther (because I totally forgot about muddy spring ground and I wore a Chaco sandals, oh well).

We had a busy night in the snow out by the #MiddlesexFells. I've been seeing plenty of rabbit tracks around, but this is the first morning with coyote tracks. I thought I heard something outside when the #dogs did one of their nutties. It's terrifying when they both bolt out of bed, barking like madmen in the middle of the night!

They have very great sequence of trails readily accessible via #MedfordMA and #MaldenMA - #HickeyPark has a #BlueBikes station and is about a mile's walk from a trailhead, and #OakGrove isn't that far if you're on the #OrangeLine - Thanks for the reminder, its a good prompt to compile a post of #BostonHikes in a future #BostonWeekend thread :)

Speaking of bird calls & songs, I managed to record a couple of calls with distinctive *trills* the other day in the Fells forest near the cascade (waterfall). Eastern Massachusetts.

Was not quite so lazy today as previously indicated.

Excellent 5.5 mile hike in Middlesex Fells, the aptly-named Rock Circuit Trail. This trail hits EVERY DAMN outcropping it can.

Up and down and up and down and up and down and... you get the picture. Ouch. I am going to be SORE tomorrow.

(and I didn't even do the whole trail, bailed halfway through to finish on something flatter)
