I'm currently reading "Middlemarch" by George Eliot -- the pen name of English author Mary Ann Evans -- at night to help me fall asleep, and I'm noticing that the length of the sentences in my Mastodon posts has gotten longer and longer as a result.

Middlemarch township flooded in 2018 then again in 2021. The Regional Council says there's no cheap or easy solution.
"But council's flood hazard analyst Nathan Anderson said there was also some good news, including debris flow not being a major concern.
Paraphrasing, 'Your houses will flood regularly but you're unlikely to drown.' I'm not sure I'd categorise that as good news.

Isn't it weird how your frame of mind impacts your enjoyment of a book?
Example: I have tried and failed many times to get into George Eliot's "Middlemarch". I always found it dry and incredibly slow paced. Where is the plot? It's so many words about nothing.
This time around, I finally get it. Listening to the audiobook (Narrator: Nadia May) helped. Middlemarch is a *comedy* and the humor is in absurdity of these human characters in responding to their situations.
