I doubt it would actually happen, but if the swing in the Mid Bedfordshire By-Election was repeated across the UK Labour would have a 310 seat majority, the Lib Dems would be the main opposition, and the Tories would be left with twenty seats

Labour has never won #MidBedfordshire before today.
They only ever had #Tamworth during the Blair years.
Two huge majorities from 2019 reduced to smithereens.
Now, it is a by-election, and they tend to behave differently to a general election. But even a 5% smaller swing to Labour than this gives them a comfortable majority.
If you're Rishi Sunak, do you accept your time in office will be short? Or how do you plot a comeback from these depths?

Well I'm unsure these two seats are the same - a #poll mid-Sept in #midBedfordshire put #labour & #toriesOut neck & neck on 34% with #libDems trailing by 18%
But what matters is turnout - if #labour feel more positive then I fancy them to win there....
There is no poll I am aware of for #tamworth - but #labour won it in 1996 so it is winnable
We will know one way or the other within 36 hours....

Q. will competition between #Labour & the #LibDems let the #Tories retain #MidBedfordshire, or will the ground-up strategy of #tacticalvoting kick in (provided people all take the same view on who to vote tactically for)...
Of course, if the #Tories do retain Mid Bedfordshire, it may (may!!) be a wake up call for the opposition parties....

Mid-Bedfordshire by-election, interesting sounds from activists (not been myself, work is busy and health isn't ideal). Sounds like Tory campaign slowed a lot but Labour and Lib Dems still going gangbusters.
From here most signs point yellow-ward (no "leaked" canvass returns, so not everything). But I've not been on the ground and everyone with any decent data has an agenda, so I can't claim to actually know. Maybe this will age badly?
