  1. Chinese courts allow heirs to inherit accounts of deceased gamers — multiple cases spanning years establish precedent for digital ownership of games, in-game items, and microtransactions

“Chinese courts view game accounts and microtransaction purchases as something of monetary value, and therefore gamers have rights related to those assets,” u/Slawrfp wrote. “Chinese courts reject the idea that standard non-transferability clauses can stop you from inheriting or bequeathing a game or even individual microtransactions (of the same nature as CS:GO knives or skins in other games) and have made this ruling in multiple cases.”

  2. "Jack, we have to talk."

Jack stopped mid chop and turned to face me, arms crossed.

"Look, if its about the speed at which I harvest pumpkins, I did what you suggested and got myself a new Lvl 2 axe, and I've improved my speed and-"

"Yes, that's all fine Jack. And yes, you have improved your pumpkin harvesting efficiency three-fold."

"But...? Then what is your problem.. today?" I had read him the UFW guidelines on a technicality in his contract last week; he had not been pleased.

"See, when I'm not around, the chickens continue to lay eggs, the wheat and the sugar cane still grows, Tony in the sheep enclosure still collects wool. Even those lazy bastard traders continue to go fetch.. bricks.. or whatever they fetch while I'm gone. The _pumpkins_ continue to grow. And yet there never seems to be a stockpile of harvested pumpkin slices when I turn up."

"You should probably talk to a developer who cares." sneered Jack.

  3. "Sorry, explain that again?"

Glenn, the research lab supervisor, pushed his horn rimmed glasses further up his nose. "Ah, yes. Urm. So you see, if we just have twenty-six eggs, fourteen wheats, eleven quarts of milk and thirty bricks, we can research a new faster growing strain of sugar cane."

"Alright, the eggs, wheat and milk I can sortof understand... if your research team needs to make _breakfast_, but would you care to explain why you need the bricks?"

"Uh.. You know, no one has ever asked me that before."

"And we wonder why these farms are a money pit. Do you bash your own genitals with them to derive pain induced divine research inspiration, or do you raid a Monsanto lab and stone some actual geneticists to death and steal their work?"

    "Its complicated."

"Fine. Just have it done by Tuesday. I need to give thirty bushels to" <checks notes> "Philip... you know, the helicopter pilot so he'll go get more... bricks."

  4. I put the six flats of eggs down, took off my cap and wiped the sweat from my eyes.

"Edmondo. Do you enjoy working at Microtransaction Casual Mobilegame Farm?"

"Sì, signor, molto!" Edmondo smiled as he methodically turned the crank of the tomato sauce machine.

"And well, your skill with the sauce machine is.. well it is beyond doubt."

"Sì, signore, grazie." Edmondo grinned. The resemblance to Manuel from #FawltyTowers was uncanny.

"I guess... I guess I'm wondering why you can't take the initiative to go and get the tomatoes from the tomato field directly.. And why I have to come in from the back forty every five minutes to do that."

Edmondo gesticulated wildly. "Ma preparo io la salsa!"

"ITS RIGHT THERE!" I pointed to the tomato field. "IT'S TWENTY YARDS AWAY!"

"Non so come si fanno i pomodori!"

"Of course you fucking don't." I hefted the eggs.

    "Goddamned stupid farm."

  5. The golden robotic arm swung gently beneath the helicopter as it was lowered into its receptacle. I frowned. The fact there were no guide ropes or spotters did nothing to change my conviction that this entire operation is one gruesome OSHA mortality waiting to happen.

    "I don't recall ordering this."
"Its twice as efficient," said Eddie the shell claw operator. "Youll catch twice as many shells."
"I don't care about efficiency. Who authorized this?"
    "Oh I did"
The onset of the migraine was sharp; I winced. "Eddie.. you've been an employee for... literally 37 seconds. You can't just order a half million dollar piece of machinery without my say-so."
With a well lubricated `snik`, the robot arm slid into place. A low hum eminated from the arm as it began to wheel around its calibration routine. A small blue plaque appeared at its base.

"Websites utilizing Web Monetization can grant immediate access to premium content when a user agrees to the terms without requiring upfront payment. After viewing a paid video, the browser automatically processes a micropayment transaction without interrupting the user’s experience."

A blind signature is used to protect the privacy of users as it prevents the exchange from knowing which coin it signed for which customer. »

  9. I keep seeing articles/posts telling me that battle passes in games are fine as its all optional and cosmetic.

To those people I just want to let you know there was a time before games had micro transactions and battle passes. The same content existed for us back then, but it was all built into the game, and you had to unlock it by playing the game and achieving cool feats.

Why would anyone prefer to pay for this stuff? Do you even enjoy playing the game?

  10. YongYea argues how the term "#microtransaction" has lost all meaning because the amount of money they ask for is hardly "micro" anymore.

I agree, but I go further and think the whole business model behind this is crap to begin with. But people just will keep paying.

  11. So many #microtransaction games have "gradual shutdowns" where the game is gone forever and so is all the stuff you have paid money for.

I have played some #Gacha games before and enjoyed them quite a bit in some cases, but I would never put money into them as they always seem to follow the trend of being up for a couple of years, sapping whales cash then closing down and opening a new one.
