I think you are right.
Non-tech users just want a single identity to be able to communicate.
An identity might then have limited abilities - it might not be able to communicate a video. But a payment might fix that.
For the broader audience this must be fixed.
And we need a true standardized #micropayment protocol, supported by browsers and (European) banks.

flattr did this in a very sexy way, but still people were too lazy to adopt.
Obviously, the "literally one thing you want from the internet" is not the one thing all the others want 🤣

Ich finde, es fehlt ein unkompliziertes #Mikrobezahlsystem für kleine Dienstleistungen. Ohne Mitgliedschaft, extrem einfach, schnell, günstig, sicher, anonym und universal bei jedem Anbieter einsetzbar.
Damit könnte man Artikel, Podcasts, Videos, Infos und ähnliches bezahlen. Paywalls oder Spenden mit einem Klick.
Wie wichtig ist Euch #micropayment? -
While I really would like a useful #micropayment system (not a blockchain!) so that I can pay for web content directly, the increasing sponsor/AD system in youtube/nebula/etc. videos is sometimes endearing. If I had spare time, I'd make a video consisting of just all the amazing seqways to the ad. Like the Minute Physics video on draining the sea, which cut to how the media would cover such an event and how you need... a site to tell you the biases. Or the Astrum video on circular things seen from space which asks if your education hasn't completed the circle, then maybe you need...

Jeg tror at der kun er én mulighed:Der er behov for en internetstandard for effektiv betaling, og den skal knyttes sammen med en standard for at afkræve betaling, eksempelvis pris pr minut/side/artikel eller lignende.
Dernæst er det er spørgsmål om at lave en browseropsætning så et klik accepterer en meget lav pris pr minut eller lignende.
Ligesom gammeldags SMS.
Vi skal nok have #EU på banen så forbrugeren også tilgodeses.

@jk This perverse incentive wouldn't be nearly as strong if there were a way to electronically pay a website's operator an amount on the order of 0.25 EUR or USD. Instead, payment processors' fee per transaction incentivized a package deal: buy one article for $3 bundled with a month of access to all other articles on that site (and no other sites). Ad targeting tech promised a workaround for lack of micropayments, but its perverse incentives were even worse.

Einerseits ist es wirklich nicht mehr zeitgemäß, dass jede Bude ihren eigenen #Prepaid-#Micropayment-Dienst betreibt... andererseits dürften sich die Kreditkarten-Gebühren beim Kauf einer einzelnen #Briefmarke schon signifikant auswirken... 🤔

Geht doch: Die @blaetter bieten mir einzelne Artikel für 1 oder 2€ an. Und ich nutze dieses Angebot regelmäßig. Die großen Verlage blockieren weiterhin #Micropayment und braten in ihrem Abo-Fimmel-Saft. Dabei würden sie mit mir dadurch bessere Geschäfte machen.
In [email protected] lande ich immer wieder an der #Paywall von #Spiegel, #Handelsblatt, #SZ. #Zeit ... Geschäfte machen sie mit mir mit ihren #Abonnements nicht

When #Xitter was still #Twitter and the idea of a replacement was starting to catch on, a new contender entered the scene in the form of Post.news. A year or so later and we now have #Bluesky and #Threads, and explosive growth of the open source project #Mastodon. Post.news had a different idea, though. Based on a modified version of Mastodon, Post.news introduced a #micropayment system where users paid for articles from #news outlets. @DigitalNaiv Wichtiges Thema und gute Fragestellung! Es fehlen tatsächlich viele wichtige Stimmen, weil kein Mensch ein Dutzend teure Abos abschließt, nur weil Verlagshäuser geistig nicht aus dem Zeitalter der auflagenorientierten Druckerzeugnisse rauskommen. Aber wieso finde ich dort in dem Artikel auf horstschulte.com das Wort #Micropayment nicht?

I posit that there *might* be an argument that a #micropayment play, with friction resulting in a more trusted ecosystem of the public square, was a #ProductManagement play on the table for the TWTR board a decade ago.
They didn’t make it.

Has anybody noticed that the #micropayment service #Flattr was shut down in January? Not me! I had a Flattr button on my first, self-programmed website. But as far as I remember I never received a donation via this system. Also #Kachingle, which was absolutely unknown in Germany, seems to have disappeared. #webdev

There can be a better way, and I'm glad somebody is shaking things up. People/organizations that create truly useful information need to be compensated well enough so that they can continue to do what they're doing, so maybe it's finally time for a #micropayment system that "just works", and that's baked into the #internet to relieve us from the shackles of ads.
