My project comes together, slowly. The #WeMacro focus stacking rail can be controlled by #micro-manager with an adapted mm custom Arduino. Next step will be triggering the Sony alpha camera - likely via a TTL pin and not directly from software. #macrophotography

A question for microsky. I want to build a custom horizontal setup and am thinking of mounting a prior xy stage vertically. Is this an obviously dumb move and it will break? #microscopy #micromanager

Depending upon your camera, you may also want to look into #MicroManager which could interface both a Z-control and acquisition. Not sure what the support status is, but there's a community over at https://image.sc that are very helpful.

@cuddlefish Funniest fact is I've been using #ubuntu since 4.04 Warty Warthog and back then it was already better than MSWindows at basic tasks such as handling large or many files, or running scientific software. And most people around me in #academia use either MacOS (a Unix) or #Ubuntu or #ArchLinux. The only systems running MSWindows are microscopes, there must be tremendous vendor lock-in and inertia; but even that is being upended by the #micromanager open source microscopy software https://micro-manager.org .
