  2. 🧊 Cool to see Corintis-developed #microfluidic cooling being adopted by Microsoft

"Microsoft collaborated with Swiss startup Corintis to use AI to help optimize a bio-inspired design to cool chips’ hot spots more efficiently than straight up-and-down channels, which they also tested. The bio-design resembles the veins in a leaf or a butterfly wing – nature has proven adept at finding the most efficient routes to distribute what’s needed. "

  5. In this project, we screened de novo designed protein libraries without natural ancestry for function, using #microfluidic droplets - and massively enriched short, truncated protein fragments. Turns out that these ≈ 40- to 60-residue fragments oligomerize to form a dynamic, catalytically proficient assembly, just as primordial peptides might have formed early enzymes during the prebiotic events that led to the #OriginOfLife! #ProteinEvolution

  6. The design and fabrication of customized #microwells and #microfluidic chips is often challenging. This #PLOSBiology study describes a pipeline for resin-based 3D printed constructs and provides a variety of applications in biological #experiments.

  7. A study conducted at the CiTOS Lab potentially reshapes the preparation of high-value compounds in organic chemistry. This innovative approach combines Quantum Chemistry and #Artificial #intelligence enabling the generation of optimized process conditions within minutes, completely waste-free. The project establishes a robust foundation for a radical shift in the approach to preparing high-value organic compounds.

`Using salt tolerance compartmentalized self-replication (stCSR) and a #microfluidic platform, we obtained 11 mutant sites with enhanced salt tolerance attributes. #Sequencing and #biochemical analyses revealed that the substitution of conserved amino acids such as G197D, Y369E, T372N, and I378R plays a critical role in maintaining the #processivity of exonuclease-deficient #phi29 #polymerase under high salt conditions.`

Question: How do #transcription factors activate transcription?
Outside the DNA binding domain of a TF, there are numerous disordered domains, including activation domains that interact with co-activators--
    very little known about that

activation domains are disordered, poorly conserved, and binding to co-activators is very low affinity

  10. Biochip Device Tests Malaria Drug Efficacy, Safety

A lab-on-a-chip device with human organ cells is shown in lab tests to distinguish between malaria strains and detect drug toxicity when assessing blood for seven days.

  11. Well I'm excessively proud of this so I'll share it here:

We bond microfluidic chips by heating them in a lab oven for a couple hours, and I’m too lazy to go back to the lab to turn off the oven (or ask someone else to do it for me), so I made a little Arduino-powered "oven turner offer" that uses a servo to flip the power switch after a user-specified amount of time. Code available here: github.com/groverlab/oven_time #arduino #microfluidic

  13. Do you know those annoying layer lines on #3Dprinted parts? In resin #3Dprinters, they are as small as 25 microns… And we can make #microfluidics molds with these printers. Does this mean we can reach 25 microns features in Z?

YES! We can make a mold for a “staircase” microfluidic device. Now we have steps of 25um on the height of the channel. This #microfluidic does not only filter #microparticles, but also size-sort them. Particles of different sizes will be blocked on different steps.

  14. Happy to see our preprint out on #bioRxiv! We screened #denovodesigned proteins for #phosphoesterase activity in #microfluidic droplets – and found truncated peptides that dynamically oligomerise to proficiently break down cAMP! This project from my time at the Hollfelder lab at the University of #Cambridge was a collaboration with the Hecht lab at #Princeton University. Special thanks to Michael Wang (co-first!) and Max Gantz for the wonderful teamwork!

  15. CW: P. aeruginosa moves by twitching motility towards antibiotics and other compounds that would kill it, possibly to try and retaliate with their own antimicrobials

In a #microfluidic flow cell #pseudomonas were grown on glass and exposed to an #antibiotic gradient (~0.1-9.9x MIC) via 1-channel of a dual inlet. Cells moved towards the abx in a pilG-dependent manner and died. #pyocin expression was observed and this is thought to be a competitive behaviour.
