  1. 🎉Breaking news: Scientists discover kids with Long Covid have #microclots (who knew blood clots could be fun-sized?!) 🤡. This "study" is so fresh, it hasn't even been peer-reviewed—because who needs verification when you have microfluidic assays to throw around like confetti? 🎈🔬

"A new study suggests that exercise doesn’t clear microclots in people with Long COVID—it just fragments them into smaller ones. These smaller clots are linked to increased inflammation and impaired oxygen transport, which may help explain post-exertional malaise (PEM) and post-exertional symptom exacerbation (PESE)—a worsening of symptoms after even mild physical or mental effort."

"Researchers observed these microclot and inflammatory changes even after submaximal exertion, highlighting the need for caution when recommending exercise-based therapies."

  6. #SARSCoV2 persistence in platelet-producing lung cells:

"Accordingly, in all samples analyzed, circulating MK [megakaryocyte] in Long COVID sheltered both Spike and SARS-CoV-2 ssRNA [single-stranded RNA], but also dsRNA [double-stranded RNA] suggestive of viral replication. [...] Platelets microclots were detected in all tested Long COVID patients."

  7. >>We conclude that the presence of fibrinaloid #microclots can indeed significantly account for the symptoms of #POTS associated with #LongCovid (and likely other syndromes), just as they can for other symptoms, post-exertional symptom exacerbation, and the generation of autoantibodies<<

  8. New research on severe #microclots and #POTS!

“We here develop the argument, with accompanying evidence, that fibrinaloid microclots, through their ability to block the flow of blood through microcapillaries and thus cause tissue hypoxia, are not simply correlated with but in fact, by preceding it, may be a chief intermediary cause of POTS, in which tachycardia is simply the body’s exaggerated ‘physiological’ response to hypoxia.”

  9. We're learning more and more about long covid.

Plummeting levels of certain hormones may explain the fatigue and brain fog. "Microclots" in the blood may play a role. And the virus's ability to persist in our bodies may be crucial.

  15. "NPR interviewed scientists who are looking at microclots found in the blood of people with #LongCOVID. These #microclots are unusual in that they are made up mostly of an abnormal type of fibrin and form unusual shapes called amyloid. These fibrin amyloid microclots may be a biomarker for long COVID. Another group had an article on microclots and long COVID. They suggest the term “spike protein induced thrombotic vasculitis” (SITV) to describe the pathophysiology of long #COVID #clotting."

  16. #Texas folks—

Celestia Diagnostics in #Dallas is looking for volunteers for their #microclots research. Cool opportunity as it’s one of the most promising avenues in #LongCovid research, but currently really hard to access testing for (one of the things they’re hoping to fix).

If you’re up for a blood draw either as healthy control (thank you 🙌🏻) or as someone w/LC #MECFS #RheumatoidArthritis or #Diabetes (thank you also 💛), you can sign up here:

  17. @olireiv

Yes, this is an important question. I suspect that the #microclots play only a minor role.

This study was the first to demonstrate substantial problems in membrane transport of sodium in #MECFS patients:

    pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/364946

  18. There are four categories for #MECFS. The ones who’ve had it the longest with multiple immune events (including but not limited to infections) are the ones who get/stay worse.

MEAction says 95 percent never recover from MECFS.

I hovered between mild and moderate for decades. Immune events and #MitoDisease (seen in #LongCovid too) kicked me between moderate and severe for the last 4-5 years.

Supplements and meds keep me from being very severe. I’m sure MECFS #microclots made it worse too.

  19. @DysautonomiaZA - I know a bunch of #mecfs and #longcovid patients who got their testing done in Germany. #TeamClots found that all #pwLC and pwME had these #Fibrin and #Fibrinogen #microclots.

Many of us have been taking #NattoSerra blend enzymes that help reduce microclots.
It has really helped me. MCAS patients, it has hitamine so lumbrokinase might be a better option.

NIH has published studies about these enzymes if anyone is interested.

  20. @lqlqlq yes, many #mecfs and #LongCovid patients have tried it. I am taking it too. If you have #MCAS have to be more careful. #NattoSerra combination works well for fibrin #microclots.

    This might help:
