Their linking of a radical cultural movement with explicit fascist politics, and subsequent denial of this as “playing with extremes,” clearly presaged the reactionary approach of 4chan and its spawn, who use the same playbook of “it’s just a joke”—when it clearly is not. #MichaelMoynihan connecting the hair metal music scene of the 80s to the grifter alt media scene of today is genius. grinding just to get to the point that you're popular and rich. style over substance. the music and artistic expression (or improving America) is never the focus. who cares who gets hurt. where is the equivalent of the rise of underground alternative artists and grunge to wipe it all away?
