  1. Mandalay (1934) belongs to a sub-genre I dearly love, the pre-code tropical melodrama. With Kay Francis as a high-class hooker and sexual adventuress. She wears fabulous slinky 30s dresses. She’s at the top of her game here. Great movie.

  2. The Hangman (1959) is a slightly odd but very good psychological western with Robert Taylor as a Deputy Marshal who has to bring in a wanted man but he has no idea what the fugitive looks like. Tina Louise could identify the man, but will she?

  3. Michael Curtiz's Bright Lights (AKA Adventures in Africa) is a fascinating pre-code oddity, a 1930 backstage musical with romance and a murder. Stars Dorothy Mackaill and Noah Beery.

Includes some outrageous very pre-code musical numbers.

Light and breezy and great fun.
