Willing to set aside the FTX book fiasco; given the excellence of THE FIFTH RISK book, I am looking forward to this new Michael Lewis project. The timing is perfect. People need to stop being drooling ignoramuses about government, govt agencies, and govt work. It's largely good and beneficial. What Trump and Musk are doing is selfishly pillaging it for profit and privatization--the oldest dream of asshole conservatives everywhere.

Ik las dit weekend dus Flash Boys van Michael Lewis. Ik was vergeten dat ik dit boek eigenlijk al had, dus ik deze nu dus dubbel. De reden dat ik een Michael Lewis boek bijna zonder na te denken koop, is omdat Lewis de twee boeken schreef die de basis waren voor twee van de beste films van de laatste 15 jaar: Moneyball en The Big Short. Recently listened through #MichaelLewis's #GoingInfinite in pretty much one sitting while driving cross country.
As someone with a passing interest in cryptocurrencies, effective altruism and probabilistic thinking, it was pretty crazy to hear what happens when it's all turned up to 11.
A bit conflicted about how mental health is mentioned but not directly addressed in the book. It was probably responsible to not armchair diagnose, but it was a big piece of the puzzle to leave out.

Sooo, the rich white guy who wrote Moneyball and The Big Short has also written The Blind Side (aka 'that racist sports movie with the pretend-adoption'), and has recently taken a crack at writing a book to try and make #SamBankmanFried look cool.

The recent #BehindTheBastards episode on the book Going Infinite and #SBF was great. I found it particularly hilarious that Athe author #MichaelLewis thought SBF was an extra special boy because he played #MagicTheGathering.
As a former Magic player I feel equipped to state that this is not the case. I do think it might have appealed to SBF because his parents seem to be the type to buy endless cards for him.

Finished and really liked #MichaelLewis 's recent book #GoingInfinite about #SBF and the #FTX firm through it's end. Surreal how all this transpired, how fragile the company was, and the lack of controls for the business. Lewis had good timing to see all this happen.

the omission of ftx's bribe to chinese officials (now a charge against SBF to be tried in march '24) is waved off by lewis as "a distraction". he dismisses SBF's later admissions that the ethics stuff was made up as "an aberration" because SBF was "zonked out". on the blatant bank fraud, "nobody would have cared about it".
