I recently rediscovered the british #scifi author John Brunner. I picked up "Web of everywhere" for 1€ at the Bücherrettung at #MetropolCon / #Eurocon. In my youth his 4 novels from his so called "Club of Rome Quartett" were my holy grail. The "Web ..." novel is rather short, but it delivers.
These books are from the 70s. But still relevant, maybe more than ever. So yes: John Brunner stays one of my all time heroes. -
Back at #metropolcon Autun Purser gave us a guided video tour of research ship Polarstern on Sun 5 July.
Besides being the chief scientist on board, mr Purser also happens to be the illustrator of the new yellow covers for the SF Masterworks series of books.
I visited American Book Center at Spui in Amsterdam last week. Staff mentioned their buyer for #sciencefiction and #Fantasy really appreciates the modern covers with these illustrations. She always loved the series, but now the books are getting the attention they deserve.

Noch eine kleine Anekdote von der #metropolcon: Panel zu Short Forms (Kurzgeschichten etc.) im deutschsprachigen Raum. Es geht um Anthologien vs. Zeitschriften. Einige werden genannt - und die "wie ja alle wissen umstrittene" 'Nova'. Wusste ich nicht, geguckt - und klar: da gab es dann zwischenzeitlich einen Herausgeber von der rechtsextremen 'Secession'. Argh.

Der #Metropolcon hatte ja einen Microfiction Wettbewerb. Dann aber wohl doch nicht.
"An Alien walks into a Eurocon...". War wohl entweder nicht ernst gemeint, oder es hat sich niemand daran beteiligt. Auswertung: Fehlanzeige.

Was für eine Woche ... Mittwoch nach BaWü, um meinen Vater am Donnerstag zu beerdigen, Freitag zurück nach Berlin und am Samstag dann in die MetropolCon stürzen, die mich dann heute wieder in die freie Wildbahn entlassen hat. Irgendwie tat der Gegensatz gut (danke an alle für die schönen Gespräche!!), aber jetzt bin ich völlig erschöpft und könnte Minimum eine Woche durchschlafen ...

Wracam z #eurocon2026 w Berlinie. Trzy tematy wracały uparcie, prawie na każdej prelekcji i panelu:
- Chiny, ich wpływ lub autopromocja w Europie (której tutaj też było sporo)
- ejaj, na wszystkie sposoby - od niezrozumienia tematu, przez awersję, przez wykorzystanie praktyczne do wstępnego przesiewania danych, po hurraoptymistyczne wizje (też oparte na niezrozumieniu tematu )
- Elon Musk i kolejne zepsute przez niego "collective commons"Konwent sci-fi i fantasy, ale jak widać niektóre tematy przesiąkają teraz każdą dziedzinę życia.

On our way back home from #MetropolCon #Eurocon. A bit early, but you know b/c reasons. We had a tremendous time. Besides all the great panels, the excellent organisation and welcoming atmosphere it were all the wonderful people we met, that made this a very special Week for us. You all stay being yourself. Keine Frage, es ist schmerzlich, nicht die #Metropolcon besuchen zu können...
Die langen Bahnfahrten, die diversen anfallenden Wege in Berlin und den logischerweise langen Aufenthalt auf der Con aber als zu anstrengend und problematisch mit dem Rollstuhl eingeschätzt. Aber immerhin habe ich gerade bemerkt, dass ich im bilingualen Fanzine zum Con in einem Artikel von Dominik Irtenkauf erwähnt werde. Sogar mit Bild und dem Cover meiner Sammlung Belichtungszeit.
