  1. @Cornellbox literal LOL over here. Dang and I had been jealous of people who had #Metronet fiber!

Now I want #123Net to come to my neighborhood. We paid a lot to get them to run fiber to @workantile and it was worth it, their uptime has been strong and customer service has been excellent.

  3. Another weekend, another bout of anemic internet service from #Metronet ^h^h^hT-Mobile

  5. Broadband competition works! Apparently #Mediacom #Xstream dropped their data caps back in March, probably due to #Metronet and other ISPs that don't have them

  6. I just switched from #Comcast to #Metronet. Fiber instead of coax. Still 1G down, but now symmetric. One third the price. And the people are all nice. Of course Comcast didn’t want me to go! I couldn’t cancel through customer service, I had to speak to a "retention specialist". She tried to get me to stay by offering exactly what Metronet is giving me for exactly the same price, but adding in a mobile line (why would I need that?)

I was kind, but I pretty much ended the discussion with this: if you give me twice the bandwidth, symmetric, at half the cost of Metronet, I’ll consider whether that makes it worth putting up with your poor reliability and customer service.

They had their monopoly, and now they don’t.

  7. Got #Fiber installed. Still have #Comcast until I’m sure of everything. #Metronet Is my new provider. Everyone there great so far. Installation: A1. One hiccup: they are Carrier Grade NAT. That means I don’t get to control anything on the ONT (the fiber equivalent to a cable modem). Therefore, no port forwarding. Therefore, I can’t just SSH in like I’ve been doing. Just learned about other options from @jammcq research for our latest episode of @RuntimeArguments all about VPNs (and related). Installing Tailscale on my Mac was nothing. Maybe three minutes total. Tried at least three different ways to get it running on my 24.04 Kubuntu system but I still don’t have it. Jim said it was easy for him but the two of us couldn’t find any meaningful difference between our two systems. I’ll try more tonight maybe.

  8. Overall, the Metronet fiber pricing feels dishonest to me. I wonder how many people sign up for this without reading the fine print. Below is the pricing for my location, which includes 3 scheduled price increases over the next 3 years.

    Monthly Price
    $39.95

This Monthly Price is an introductory rate

The rate will go to 49.95 on month 13, to 59.95 on month 25, and to 69.95 on month 37.

  10. On this day in 2017, I visited Whiteman Park in Perth.

Whiteman Park is home to the Bennett Brook Railway and Perth Electric Tramway Society, as well as two transport museums.

Ironically, for such a transport themed park, the only way to visit is by car. This is set to change with the park's tram line being extended to the new Whiteman Park railway station on the Ellenbrook suburban railway line (currently under construction). Both the tram extension and the Ellenbrook line are expected to open in December 2024.

  12. Oh neat #MetroNet has already rolled out the broadband nutrition label thing.

  14. Cyclepath closed for Metronet means you have to use the footpath outside a school, which is partially blocked by roadworks sign. Traffic island a metre away would've been better spot for sign. TIL the council cant do anything legal about this, ranger contacted to say they are exempt, similar to speed cameras. #cycling #biketooter #Perth #metronet

  16. New #Metronet #internet installed and working great. Let's see if I can replicate @TheZooLady's rapid-fire posting time. LOL

  17. Going back to my post a couple of days ago wondering if fiber was coming to my neighborhood, it looks like that is, in fact, true. I got their card in the mail yesterday.

    I'd never heard of
#metronet before. Anyone here use them? What has your experience been like?

Their pricing seemed good at first glance. $60 for 1Gb and opposed to the $60 I'm paying now for 100Mb. But looking closer it's that price for only the first 12 months, then goes up to $85 for months 13-24, then goes up again to $95 for months 25+. That kind of put a damper on my excitement.

  18. #Metronet recently installed #fiber in my neighborhood. I didn't sign up because I already have pretty fast #DSL for $30/month, but they still installed a box in my back yard for when they service my neighbors.

They've had technicians ringing my doorbell every day for the past week, asking for access to the back yard, and just now, at 7:55 AM on a Saturday morning, they did it again. 😡

At what point can I start invoicing them for wasting my time?

  20. New fiber is installed and the symmetry is gonna be glorious.
