#MetRoadTrip concluded yesterday with us driving 440 miles (708km) home from Ghent via Eurotunnel, with a total of 3,900 miles (6,276km) done in our little electric Corsa over the past 20 days! 😳 Keep an eye out for more pics.

Sad that #MetRoadTrip is nearly over! We’re currently in #Ghent and will head back to Newcastle via Eurotunnel after having driven all the way to Helsinki, Finland in our electric car over the past 2.5 weeks. 🤘

We met a lovely Danish guy at the #Metallica gig tonight who said he was 62, been a fan for 40 years, and this was his first gig of theirs. “I thought I better hurry up and do it, maybe this is their last time in København”. We chatted and he asked where we were from, amazed that Nick and I had driven all the way from northern England to Helsinki and back. “You’re big fans then!” 😁 Lovely to make more friends with the #MetallicaFamily 🤘 #MetRoadTrip

Cool things from our Germany, Denmark, Sweden & Finland travels we need at home:
* 2 separate duvets on a double/king bed, one for each of you.
* Proper separated recycling, including food waste, and in venues too.
* Proper cycle/scooter lane infrastructure.
* Travel cards that work across ALL public transport - so much easier!
* Temporary traffic lights that count down, to stop people jumping them.
* Better theme park food. Phantasialand and Tivoli were great!

Wow, first stop at a service station in #Denmark with absolutely nowt for us vegetarians - most places have at least a McD’s or Burger King or other chain with options, but apparently a Circle K station does not. Even the pizza was ham or pepperoni. Oh well! We’ve got a big bag of barbecue crisps, a Lion bar, a yoghurt and some grapes for random car noms instead. 🍴

Had a wonderful time at #Suomenlinna sea fort yesterday. It’s a group of connected islands reached by a short ferry trip from #Helsinki. It is full of old military architecture, a naval academy, museums, places to walk and enjoy summer, and lots of nature.

The geese were so chilled that they walked right up to us with their babies! We sat quietly and watched them. Same with the oystercatchers who normally give humans a wide berth on beaches back home.

My 2nd time seeing the amazing #Apocalyptica was tonight in #Helsinki - they were on top form for their home crowd.

Watching a cellist is always incredible but when they’re headbanging away, swinging their long Finnish locks and knocking out the Metallica tunes, it’s quite something! 🤘🎻

Of course the #Metallica gig was great and Helsinki’s fans are great. They played Inamorata for only the 2nd time - what a treat! The ‘no repeat weekend’ continues on Sunday where I suspect they’ll play One, Wherever I May Roam, and Enter Sandman. 🤘

We made it to #Helsinki! Lots of other #Metallica fans in this hotel too. Looking forward to the first gig at the Olympic Stadium tonight, Apocalyptica tomorrow night, then the 2nd Metallica gig on Sunday! 🤘 And then we’ll pack in some sightseeing inbetween. Long drive from Hamburg, through Denmark and up to Helsingborg in #Sweden today! We’ll be doing about 380 miles or so. 🇩🇪🇩🇰🇸🇪

#Phantasialand near Cologne, Germany today. I came here on a school trip (by bus all the way from Newcastle) when I was 12, but I don’t remember much other than the earthquake in Bonn that I slept through 😂

Anyway…this place is so much fun. The FLY coaster is brilliant, really packed in around the park so you literally fly over, under and through everything else. We’re now having very fancy mini eclairs in a cake shop. Excellent food options for a #themepark ❤️ #rollercoaster #cake #MetRoadTrip

Came into the building for some food, and they have these cool original models of the tunnel concept and also another one showing the tunnel boring machine. Love stuff like this.
