Also the #Metra cars' air conditioning is woefully inadequate on this extremely humid day, but that's just me griping. In the summer I like it to be _cold_ cold, like in the upper 50s to lower 60s (~13 to 18 C) on commuter trains. Especially because the cars heat up a fair bit when they fill up.

I see a lot of fancy modern locomotives featured on Mastodon's train track Tuesday, but none are finer than EMD's F7. This one operatates at the Illinois Railway Museum. The fact that this particular locomotive went into service the year and month I was born has nothing to do with it

I saw some DHS cops carrying carbines at a downtown #Chicago #Metra station today. Maybe ICE, maybe from something else that has been dragooned into also doing ICE stuff.
I'm not sure if they had any assignment other than to mill around the train station and get us used to seeing armed federal cops milling around a train station. I can't imagine that their presence is good for Metra's ridership.

Yeah, shaking off their freight train heritage is long overdue.
As an occasional user in the city (so not a regular user of a single line) it was always frustrating looking things up. And as Thom of TRA mentioned, keeping the compass direction in the name (a holdover from the original names) isn't terribly useful -- we already know which direction we're going.
The "station of origin" idea made much more sense. I hope they adopt it.

Spent an hour this morning going through my closet and figuring out what clothes can be donated and what clothes need to be discarded. In the pocket of a dress shirt, back when I had to wear a shirt and tie to work, I found a receipt for parking at the Pingree Metra station from August 2009!!

For whoever is into Chicago railfanning, I believe I have spotted a new or restored Metra GP at Ogilvie with an unfamiliar number: METX 14.
Brand new paint job, kinda similar to the paint jobs on the shiny new SD70MACHs, I think.
