Viele Wolken heute Mittag über dem Süden und Westen Deutschland, nur wenige Wolkenfelder dagegen über dem Norden und Osten: https://www.wetterkontor.de/de/satellitenbilder/sat_deutschland.asp

I've mentioned in the past that among other things, we rely on the #Meteosat geostationary satellites to monitor #MtEtna. Even though the spatial resolution is low (the sub-satellite pixel has a nominal resolution of 3km), these satellites provide information at a high temporal rate: MSG (Meteosat Second Generation) provides full-disk images are available every 15 minutes, and a RSS (Rapid Scan Service) that only covers Europe, with data available every 5 minutes. The RSS satellite is also located at 9° of longitude east, so there is less distortion on the Etna (~15° longitude).
The main downside of RSS is that the service is not continuous: every 26 days, the satellite goes into “Full Earth Scan” mode for two days: this is needed to keep the mechanisms in good working order, and the data from these scans is NOT made available, which means that every 26 days there's a 2-day hole in the RSS data.
And obviously this happens during an ongoing #eruption. Murphy's law strikes again!

Welcome to our real-time Earth imagery stream, featuring the stunning view over Europe, captured by #Meteosat-12 from its geostationary orbit 36,000 km above Earth: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nigtvuOspmM - the imagery in this stream is the RGB GeoColour composite with lightning imagery. Updated every 10 minutes, each new image comes from Meteosat Third Generation's (MTG) cutting-edge weather monitoring mission, with a slight delay due to processing. The same for Africa: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U3jRSL3y8Vc. And the announcement: https://www.eumetsat.int/new-satellites-eye-views-europe-and-africa-streaming-online
