Hey, that's pretty cool and there are many different concepts to unpack.
However, despite the really beautiful ideas behind (rainmaking as a soil microbial function), I would like to hear from a #meteorologist about how local atmospheric upwards movement of soilborne molecules can be.
I mean, as far as I understand, clouds are seeded in several km altitude, but to reach these heights, I imagine that the particles have to travel horizontally quite far. Therefore, if the particles travel hundreds (?) of km before coming in the upper spheres, I wonder whether there is then a feedback for an evolutionary advantage.
(sorry, I don't want to crash the party, but since it is necessary to be sceptical about theories that sound too nice, because also we scientists want beautiful mechanisms to be important)

I'd like to thank the Michigan Wolverines for helping me win our March Madness pool! I make forecasts for a living, which is why I am "Stiff Competition". I'm not Sicilian, but I am 1/4 Italian, so that counts. I also took iocane powder daily to win this battle of wits. Inconceivable!

As a meteorologist, there's always a chance someone saying "nice weather" to me is a compliment, since OBVIOUSLY I'm responsible for weather that people like, but I'm NOT responsible weather they don't like. It's science.

Legislation arrives against a backdrop of significant federal pullbacks at NOAA, which lost about 20% of its roughly 12,000 workforce since early 2025, National Weather Service alone shed more than 550.

#Alfred #Wegener (died November 1930 in Greenland) was a #German #geologist, #polarexplorer, and #meteorologist. He is primarily known for his #theory of #continentaldrift, which has significantly influenced modern theories of #platetectonics. Fossil discoveries and similar calving fronts along the west coast of #Africa and the east coast of #SouthAmerica led him to his theory, which is still crucial for understanding the #evolutionaryhistory of life on Earth.

I have become a "very angry taxpaper" in the United States as I watch how the federal government is trying to become more...efficient?
