The #stratocumulus causing the anticyclonic gloom is finally beginning to break up as Arctic air floods south across the British Isles. It wonโt get as far south as previously modelled, stalling over the English Channel as mild moist air pushes in from the south. This could cause headaches with #uksnow prediction on Tuesday. #weather #ukweather #meteorolgy

Youโve probably heard thereโs an early spring cold snap on the way. Well this time there is! This GEFS ensemble shows a sharp drop in temperature about a mile up on the 5th, which is a good indicator of what will happen lower down. Thereโs also a significant possibility of #uksnow from the 7th-9th especially.

Thanks to a cold December, #winter 2022-23 was only just warmer than average (a whopping 1.7ยฐC colder than winter 2021-22!), and with 36 air frosts was the frostiest winter since 2010. It was largely settled and dry except for a period of very wet mild #weather from mid December to mid January that boosted the average rainfall to 116%.

Change on the way at last! (But not for long unfortunately - the anticyclonic gloom will return!)

Another cold night across Southern England with #Bournemouth Airport once again one of the coldest stations in the UK. I recorded -4.2ยฐC at my own east #Dorset station.
I will publish the stats in early March but this must be one of the frostiest winters for years, in southern UK at least.
