  1. "Fire: Destructive, Regenerative, Sacred" now open at ArtPod in Metchosin! The exhibitions runs from the 20th of March to the 3rd of May.

In honour of World Earth Day, ArtPod presents Fire: Destructive Regenerative Sacred, the third part of the continuing Elements Series.

A powerful force of change, fire represents both renewal and destruction, the sacred and profane, safety and danger, passion and loss. All living beings have a primal relationship with fire. How has fire impacted you? Maybe you think of destructive wildfires. Or sharing stories and songs around a campfire. This exhibit explores the elemental force of fire across all artistic media.

  3. Over the past year, the #LifeCycles team has been taking a deep dive into reimagining what the #SeedLibrary can be. With the help of many dedicated volunteers, we’ve spent significant time sorting and organizing seeds, and we’re excited to share what’s coming next.

By the end of February, #seed #donation bins will be launched at each of #GreaterVictoriaPublicLibrary branches. The Seed Library at the Broughton branch in downtown Victoria, which will both collect and distribute seeds, is expected to be fully functional by March.

We are also shifting how #seeds are accessed at the #library to make them more #accessible and increase their reach. The Seed Library will function more like a Seed Box - prioritizing ease of access, because we believe that access to seeds—especially amid rising food costs—is an important part of local #foodsecurity.

Alongside this, we are planning to continue the Seed Library’s core work of growing out heirloom and locally adapted varieties so they remain accessible in our region. As these seeds become available, we will put these seeds into rotation in the Broughton Branch Seed Library.

We’re also planning two #SeedWorkshops this year — a beginner workshop in the spring and a more advanced workshop in the summer. More details coming soon!

#Volunteer opportunities - come help us!

We have two remaining seed-sorting shifts and we would love your help:

  8. Today, I am fucking pissed off that #CRD approved borrowing $103 million to build a bigger RCMP building in the Westshore. Fuck that shit. People are struggling to pay rent, buy food/medications/living essentials & our local CRD board gets a loan to help criminal cops/RCMP. FYI - For non-locals -> many RCMP CIRG are from Nanaimo, Langford/Colwood, North Island, Northern BC, Winnipeg, rural Alberta areas. These places have higher amount of Conservative racist voters too - it's no coincidence.

RCMP CIRG is a voluntary corporate mercenaries unit & they're paid more than regular RCMP officers. Their main job is to protect ecocidal corporate interests, not public interests. That's why I call them corporate mercenaries. They're a heavily militarized unit & many COs are openly racist too. I have dealt with CIRG face to face multiple times, in multiple areas of BC. They're violent armed domestic terrorists who break multiple laws with impunity. They were created by BC government in 2017, under colonial crime boss, John Horgan. I hate that man, even post-death.
