  6. Is there an #EU wide price comparison site for #onlineshopping?

    Even a list of comparison sites would be helpful. Someone could then construct a #metasearch engine.

  8. Web search is a cesspit of algorithm-driven propaganda

    The #dotcons have turned web searches into a cesspit of algorithm-driven consumerist and political ideological propaganda. What was a tool for discovery and connection is now a tightly controlled funnel, pushing people towards preordained narratives and commercialized echo chambers. Nowhere is this more obvious than on Google, the go-to gatekeeper of information, where what you find is shaped not by the richness of human knowledge, but by whatever serves the interests of the #nastyfew who […]

  13. As our digital lives in the US become less stable and private, I wanted to figure out how to choose what search engine my browser uses.

    I just added a new default search engine option for my Firefox on my MacBook (Mac OS).

    1) add an extension to Firefox to allow me to add a different default search engine:

  15. Are there any model metasearches for #3Dprinting?

    I currently check
    A) Makerlab
    B) Thingiverse
    C) Printables.com

    I prefer #creativecommons - but at this stage im unlikely to republish and everything I do falls under fair use, so #freeculture preferred; not required

  18. #FYI meta-search portal Metager.org is now charging for use. For now they are pitching it as a one-time payment;

    metager.org/keys/#how-it-works

    ...but until yesterday I had no reason to think there would be a payment, and the error message that informed me this morning of the change says;

    "Token used up. Recharge now."

    So you'll forgive my scepticism about the payment remaining one-time. I will be removing Metager from all my devices ASAP.

  19. Metasearch engines offer privacy & diverse search results from multiple categories, reducing algorithmic influence. Experiment with various ones to broaden search capabilities & explore a world beyond Google.

  20. Why depend on a single #searchengine like #duckduckgo or #bing when you can aggregate from them all using a #metasearch engine like SearXNG?

  21. Why doesn't #Tor use an #opensource #searchengine such as #searx by default?

    Does a pretty good job & has 80+ instances available at:

    searx.space/ 😀

    That should ensure a better uptime & reliability than #duckduckgo & of course - way better everything - than #bing 👍

  26. I couldn't believe it, I had to go checking out the source code, but it's real. They've really done it! A real, honest-to-goodness, open-source, first-class #searchEngine. No more shuffling #metaSearch engines that work half the time, pretty soon there'll be a diverse ecosystem of real, actual search engines! And they went and wrote it in #rust, too. Hell yeah.

    edit: TBF with regards to results YMMV
