Update: It sure was...a show...
I'm not even sure what it was going for? I think there's a better show somewhere inside this show where the cyberpunk aspects are strengthened and the mech suit battles are dropped. I just lost interest every time the characters' halos showed up.

Started watching #MetallicRouge despite the middling reviews. Interesting worldbuilding, though it’s a little rushed and the exposition dumps feel out of place. The battle scenes are great, but I think I’m mostly here for the yuri vibes.

Final episode of Metallic Rouge. They wrapped it up as well as they could for all the mess they made along the way, but it's not a show I can recommend overall.
Loved the character design, loved the OP, loved the first episode, and I wish it'd just been a buddy show about two hired guns because I love the personalities that seep through their designs. Instead it's yet another space dynasty 🥱 and whatever chemistry there could've been between Rouge & Naomi kept getting interrupted by the plot flailing about. What a waste.

There's lots wrong with Metallic Rouge, but I really do appreciate these character designs. The costumes, the hairstyles, the faces, the poses – there's so much of their personality in it all. I feel like I can read these characters just from their look. And that's a difficult task with these two: they aren't "big" bombastic personalities, so their designs need to convey nuanced emotions with economy. (Ah, and I get so much joy from Naomi's smirks.)

Good thoughts on Metallic Rouge at ANN. Personally I’m finding myself caring less about this show the more layers of hierarchy and double-crossing they add to it. I’m not sure I agree that its story was compressed after being thought out. Every episode has 2 or 3 “But wait!” moments. I feel like I’m watching kids playing together with action figures: they may be processing real-world stuff in the plot they’re negotiating together, but it’s messy, incomplete, often contradictory; it’s just a rally to keep the adventure going.

Sigh. Many modern sub groups rush, and editors don't check. In the latest episode of Metallic Rouge
The dude says "おつかまり下さい". In Japan, you often hear this on the bus: ”急停車します。手摺におつかまり下さい” (Bus is stopping, please hold on to the handrails).
I mean, just look at the sequence of events: The flying ship is attacked, the dude says his line, and everyone quickly HOLDS ON TO SOMETHING. Obviously he didn't say "Capture them".

It's the exact same thing in the CR subs, so these sub groups took the CR sub and did not notice this mistake!I just checked the dub, and he says "We're moving in!", which kinda works in the context, because they crash land, but it's NOT what he said. :neocat_blush_hide:
I get that releasing a simuldub means the timing must be very tight, but maaaan, this is just painful.

Interesting that Metallic Rouge already has the concept of Spacial Computing, but in a smaller form of glasses as seen with Naomi, not the Ski Goggles that what the first generation of the Apple Vision Pro.
It will be a long time until the Apple Vision Pro can get down to the size of glasses, or at least become light enough that you aren't wearing something heavy on your face.

I started watching one of the current season animes today, Metallic Rouge. So far I love it. It's lacking a little in the "why are we doing any of this and following these characters?" early on, but it's stylish, it's very scifi, and I love the two main characters. Also: magical girl mechsuit transformation?! Yes.

Hot Take: Metallic Rouge is probably one of the best 6/10 anime to come out in a long time.
I'd absolutely love to rate it higher, it does so many neat things, has impressive animation, but it's just not cohesive enough remotely.
