  1. I also hope to remember the ideas in this episode next time I feel tempted to pathologise my own very reasonable despair about the state of the world by calling it #depression when really sadness and disempowerment and borderline nihilism are *healthy* responses to a profoundly complex and frightening #metacrisis. 3/n 🧵

  2. I don't like to feed fear too much, because it sometimes incapacitates people from taking action. However, the more I talk to people about the mechanics of the global food system, the more I believe that most people simply don't believe that we could see a collapse that makes virtually all commercial vendors of food run out of supply. So what does your gut say? Will we see a _global_ famine in our life time?

I hope I'm wrong, so please boost for reach so we can get educated on this and prepare the resistance if I'm right.

  4. “All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given us.”

What can we do — together — that makes these times more livable?

  5. This infographic from IPBES (Intergovernmental Science-Policy Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services) explains the four "method families" for assessing the values of nature. It highlights that the global biodiversity crisis is linked to how nature is valued in decisions. The infographic describes four different approaches to valuation: nature-based, statement-based, behaviour-based, and integrated valuation.

  9. Was watching a talk by Sarah Wilson at TEDxSydney: "How to respond to a societal collapse"

Takeaway: If you're looking for an alternate word for "clusterfuck" (like if you're doing an RCA for US-EAST-1) I'm here to share that with you.

  10. In these strange times, if you're not an #activist, you are the problem.

If you told me I'd hold this opinion ten years ago, I'd have thought you'd gone completely bonkers (and I probably was the problem back then).
