  1. Discord Deploys End-to-End Encryption on Voice, Video Calls

Big news for Discord users: the platform has just rolled out end-to-end encryption for all voice and video calls by default, giving you an extra layer of security and peace of mind when chatting with friends or colleagues. This major update is powered by the innovative DAVE protocol, designed to keep your conversations private and…

  2. Implementing #MLS in #Android #Messages would not have been possible without the great mls-rs crate from #aws: github.com/awslabs/mls-rs. Thanks for making it open source!

Speaking of MLS, we also use mls-rs in #ProtonMeet (see proton.me/meet). It's being adopted more and more internally and I even interviewed a #Rust candidate using Meet a few days ago.

  3. We are excited to share our latest work on making secure messaging more decentralized!

We've developed DMLS – a new approach that brings fork resilience to the MLS protocol, solving a key challenge in distributed systems while maintaining Forward Secrecy.

This work was made possible by eQualitie, who funded it as part of the SplinterCon Breakout program.

  4. Discovery of last week: Wire, the instant messenger headquartered in Switzerland, developed in Berlin and founded by former Skype employees, has experimental support for both Messaging Layer Security and Federation (similar to Matrix), has open source clients and server, and unlike Signal, explicitly allows selfhosting servers.

MLS is the first standardized and fully specified end-to-end encryption protocol. It brings substantial improvements in performance and security compared to existing protocols. We have been involved in the design and development of the MLS protocol since the very beginning.

    🍿 The Congress talk:
@raphaelrobert and Konrad presented Messaging Layer Security (MLS). The room was packed and some people couldn't attend in person – luckily the talk is now online and can be watched again.

Thank you @CCC, @c3voc_releases, and all angels for the great event!

  11. We’ve been following the @ietf standards work on #MessagingLayerSecurity with interest, since it's a modern protocol that enables more comprehensive protection of communications, making end-to-end encrypted messaging for groups more efficient and secure. The Sovereign Tech Fund has supported OpenMLS, an open source implementation of MLS, whose work has contributed immensely to the establishment of the standard. (1/2)

  12. Hello OpenMLS 0.5 👋
    mastodon.social/@phoenix_r_d/1

In case you have missed it: Messaging Layer Security, a new protocol for end-to-end encryption, was published earlier this week as a new internet-standard. Check out our blog post if you want to know more: blog.phnx.im/rfc-9420-mls/

  13. Today we are releasing OpenMLS 0.5. This release includes substantial improvements making it compliant with RFC 9420 (aka #MessagingLayerSecurity) and covering extensive interoperability testing with other implementations.

Check out our blog post and technology – we are curious to hear your feedback!

  14. 🥁🥁🥁 Say hi to Messaging Layer Security! After 5 years in the making, the protocol has been published as RFC 9420. #MLS is the first standardized and fully specified end-to-end #encryption protocol. The specification is freely accessible, and its security has been analyzed in numerous academic publications.

We wrote a blog post giving a high-level overview of MLS, its practical applications, and why it matters.

  19. 🆕 What’s new with MLS?
At the moment, IETF116 is being held in Yokohama and IETF approved the publication of #MessagingLayerSecurity (MLS) yesterday. This means the work on the protocol is finished, RFC editors will now review the text and propose editorial changes.
As a next step, MLS will receive its RFC number and can be officially considered as a standard.

  20. After five years of work, the #MessagingLayerSecurity (MLS) protocol will soon be published as an IETF standard. We spoke with Juliana Guerra from @derechosdigital about the importance of open standards, federation and how our implementation #OpenMLS allows you to integrate MLS into messaging platforms.

Let me know if you wanna meet up, both friends and strangers ☺️

Happy to also talk about what we do at Phoenix R&D around #MessagingLayerSecurity, #OpenMLS, and all other projects we have going on.

  22. If anyone knows anyone: We are looking for a Rust engineer to help us build more secure messaging.

    I'm a bit biased, but I think it's a cool job!
