quite some other projects try to solve "offline communications" by using Bluetooth but I think this is very unpractical for anything that is not looking like an IRC or SMS app
but if people setup local interconnected wifi hotspots and build a mesh network in the cities/towns then you can have a something much more interesting while not draining everyone's battery
enabling people to do things like this and becoming truly resilient and autonomous
things like this you can never do with centralized messengers like #WhatsApp, #Telegram, #Signal, etc. if you really care about digital independence, centralized alternatives are just NOT an option at all

Łapki mi opadły. Ja sołtysa pytam, co robimy w razie kryzysu alarmowego, bo we wsi nie było słychać syren podczas testów. Sołtys nie wie, nie ma instrukcji odgórnej. Gmina niezbyt chce wiedzieć. Kasy żadnej na obronę cywilną nie ma (np więcej syren lub warsztaty cywilne), a ta co była została wydana na głupoty.
Zostało tylko oddolne organizowanie się i może radio krajowe, jeśli zasięg będzie (bo sieć telefoniczna słabo dociera do wsi).
W głowie mam: hmm pora na mesh okolicznych wsi! Sołtys mówi, że nie wyjdzie bo gmina nie da kasy i inne wsie raczej nie będą chciały XD

Back in 2015~ I used to read a tech magazine published in Italy, and a thing from it has been stuck in my head:
It was a mesh network, but unlike Meshtastic, its main purpose was file sharing (yes, that kind, but also things like guides or recipes)
I think the name was bird-themed?Anyone remember?

Changelog обещает, что теперь путь будет вычисляться легче и выбираться короче. Пока в дороге и не могу это проверить, но смотрится очень интересно. Grafana покажет.🙂

@photosbykyle there are also other open-source #mesh_network software. #zerotier is one of them. #Tailscale is a great mesh VPN, with lots of nice features but there are a decent amount of competitors that will work too. #headscale isn't the only option, Just the easiest.
