It’s been 30 years since a few cyclists known as the Brunswick Bicycle Group (now #MerribekBUG ) got together to concrete a small section of the #MerriCreekTrail near CERES environmental park. Now the concrete shared-use trail managed by #MerribekCouncil stretches 21km from Dights Falls to the M80 in #Melbourne’s northern suburbs.

Never underestimate the actions of a few people to create change.

“Today we did site inspection of new seating along the #MerriCreekTrail in Fawkner. This was a community submission project from last year by several groups in #Merribek. Good to see progress on this. Dad will be able to stop and have a rest and sit down if he gets tired being Chauffeur. It also means people walking along the path can have little rest stops. We look forward to the seats added in the near future.”

Just attending Merri-bek Council meeting in the Public gallery. I asked 2 questions during public question time:
1. In Regional Trails Strategy what was Council doing co-ordinating work with Hume Council on Craigieburn path, #UpfieldBikePath, and #MerriCreekTrail given regional priority.
2. Asked about impact on Box Forest shared Use path of a possible right hand slip lane turn into Northern Memorial Cemetery, and impact on pedestrians crossing to the Shared Use Path.

“With a #heatwave alert for a good portion of southern Australia and Naarm, we woke Dad up early (for him) to take him cycle exercising down #MerriCreekTrail. We felt sorry so let him have a latte at Ceres Joe’s Garden. Really, a lovely spot. Then off to the off lead park for us to have a run, then home via #UpfieldBikePath where we inspected progress on the bike path construction at Merlynston. It was getting pretty hot by then.”
