Saoirse Ronan gives a wholly believable performance as a graduate student whose research and relationship fall by the wayside as her drinking escalates - and who then tries to recover back in Orkney with her religious mum and her bipolar dad.

I crashed and burned last night. Feeling distinctly suicidal and what's-the-fucking-point. I;m a little better now I've had some sleep but I'm still very fragile. Maybe I'l talk to my GP tomorrow but GPs only ever want to throw pills at it. I've fought with the mental health system for years, in vain, and I don't know what to do or where to turn.
