@Alison And some of us men still don’t get it, why a woman won’t date us, marry us, have sex with us. Until we are our brothers’ keepers (ie. taking responsibility for ourselves, our actions, AND the actions of our brothers I’m not sure the situation is going to get better for us. This is #menswork.

@chris I agree Chris. It’s why I do the work I do. On myself, as a man who wants to be better. And with other men, most of whom are struggling. Good men, who know their families, their marriages, their communities, and the world need us to step up in a new way.

We men, and especially young men, are vulnerable to this kind of manipulation. The answer lies in doing “the work,” to make ourselves better husbands, fathers, uncles, grandfathers, boyfriends, sons, brothers, friends, colleagues. This is not on women. This is on us. And especially on us as fathers & uncles who’ve failed to mentor younger men to be their best, who’ve failed to create an economy where young men can thrive.

🥅🏒 Some gold here in Roenick’s Hockey Hall of Fame acceptance speech. I do not know JR’s career (I was AWOL from watching pro hockey for 40+ years). Apparently he was (& remains) larger than life. In his speech he touches on things that many men might relate to, not the least of which is how the women who love us are the true “hall of famers” in our lives.

As a dorky white cis kid growing up at the turn of the millennium, I got a lot of messages about how to "be a man" that didn't feel good or seem attainable to me.
It took a long time & lots of painful trial & error to realize I don't have to measure up to traditional "manliness".
Today I'm part of a community that helps me experience masculinity as connective, accountable, generous & transformational.
