Hype for the Future 40C: Southeastern Pennsylvania
Historically, settlement patterns have largely been blocked by the mountainous zones throughout the Eastern United States, known as the Appalachian Mountains. Further east along the mountains and valleys, however, is the vast majority of the population of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, with the largest city, Philadelphia, located within the region, as well as Allentown, Reading, Lancaster, York, Bethlehem, Easton, Chambersburg, Shippensburg, Carlisle, Harrisburg, and numerous other […]https://novatopflex.wordpress.com/2025/12/10/hype-for-the-future-40c-southeastern-pennsylvania/

Hype for the Future 39E: Amish and Mennonite Communities
While the Amish and Mennonite communities are obviously identifiable by the abstinence from modern technology and related amenities of modern life, the Mennonite communities are often more diverse, with communities ranging from Amish-style to Mennonite communities with full modern conveniences, though continuing to prefer plain colors such as white and/or black. While horses and buggies are usually unable to exceed 25 miles per hour safely, thus the legal obligation for the safety triangles, […] -
I didn't realize there were #Mennonites in South America.

Sharing this from another Social media platform:
#MennoniteAction is turning two, and it's a sobering anniversary. We wish to see a free #Palestine, and see our work become obsolete. And yet, we're encouraged by two years of faithful expression of #solidarity, two years of learning, training, taking bold public action, and experiencing unity together in this movement. We invite all in our community of #Mennonites 4Ceasefire
to join us on November 20th for our Anniversary Call, this month's Mass Call oriented to reflection, remembering, and recommitting to the work that still lies ahead. RSVP to join here: https://www.mennoniteaction.org/call -
Oh look… like Stalin did to the Mennonites (my grandparents family and relations in Zhaporizhia) and other Ukrainians 100 years ago.

Die Amish, #Hutterer & einige Old Order #Mennonites wachsen dadurch sogar rapide.

Book Review: Miriam Toewes’ latest!
““Nah, Abe, maybe you should read it yourself,” he says, but I wouldn’t be the Schteinback Post’s top book reviewer if I actually read the books, now would I? I just go by whatever the pastor & the gossip tells me. “ -
CBC: U of Winnipeg project aims to keep stories of Mennonite immigration to Canada in 1920 from disappearing. “Researchers at the University of Winnipeg are working on what they say will be the largest oral history project on Mennonites in the country, trying to capture stories of those who fled the Soviet Union in the 1920s before those stories are lost.”

This picture looks like it was taken in early spring or late winter. Judging by my father’s outfit, my sister’s outfit, and my polished shoes it was a Sunday morning. My mother snapped the pic just before we piled into the ‘55 Oldsmobile my father adored. We were on our way to worship and sing at one of the local Mennonite churches. The church my grandparents helped found in the 1930s after their wanderings from Russia, Siberia, the civil war, Mexico, and Manitoba brought them to Black Creek on Vancouver Island.
My father was about 25. Today, August 21, is his birthday.
He wasn’t an easy father. But I always knew he loved me, and when I stopped expecting him to be the father I wanted him to be, then he became the father he was. I was 40 before I really came to appreciate him. Then we had about 20 good years together. Thank god for the wisdom that, sometimes, comes with getting a little older.#family #fathers #sons #menshealth #vancouverisland #mennonites #germans #diaspora #birthday

University of Winnipeg: Oral history project promises to be largest completed with Mennonites in Canada. “Since January of this year, UWinnipeg associate history professor, Dr. Aileen Friesen, and UW alumna, Kate Moulden (BA 24), have conducted more than 50 interviews with children of Mennonite immigrants. ‘It’s approximately one interview every two days,’ Moulden said. Once completed, the […]

https://kfor.com/news/oklahoma-legislature/oklahoma-house-passes-christ-is-king-resolution/
This asinine resolution violates the #FirstAmendment and the #Oklahoma constitution. It is also an insult to all non-Christian Oklahomans, as well as Christian traditions like the #Mennonites who hold the separation of church and state as a religious value.

Apparently, there is a rumor floating around locally that I'm planning to move to Canada (or another country).
Yes, it is something that I've seriously considered, but it isn't on the table right now. There is too much work to be done here, and I have a lot of family obligations that would make me hesitant to relocate unless it were absolutely necessary.Circumstances could change though (my religious/cultural connections to both #Judaism and the #Mennonites have a long history of immigration to avoid persecution --- which is why both traditions are still alive today), which is why I recommend all of my friends to:
1. Ensure that you have a valid passport. If money is tight, then just get the passport card (much cheaper, valid for travel by land or sea to #Canada, #Mexico, Bermuda and the Caribbean).
2. Start putting money into savings because #immigration (even if to Canada or Mexico) is expensive.
3. It's not a bad time to work on improving your language skills. French fluency gets you preference points in the Canadian immigration system (and possible access to Quebec's expedited immigration program), and of course Spanish fluency is essential if you plan to live in Latin America. -
Incredibly lazy reporting from #NBCNews, failing to clarify that most #Mennonites DO vaccinate their children, and do not believe in "total separation from the world."
The community in Seminole, #Texas referenced in this story is a much more conservative sect than most modern mainstream Mennonites in North America. NBC News should have clarified this.
Excerpt: There’s also a large Mennonite population, a religious sect that believes in “total separation from the outside world,” according to the Texas State Historical Association. These Mennonites chose to settle in Gaines County, in part, for its lack of regulation on private schools. This includes vaccine mandates.

Mennonites played a key role in the development of the health care system in Puerto Rico from the mid-1940s through the early 1970s. Mennonite entrepreneurs also helped the poultry and dairy sectors grow in that island nation. Read former MEDA board member Jim Alvarez's reflections on this history: https://buff.ly/3zBc4lT

My cousin is doing great pie-based work encouraging Canadians to provide feedback on the latest cap and trade scheme.
https://vm.tiktok.com/ZM6swNQbW/There’s a toolkit at ClimateMessengers.ca that will help you write an email. In short: there are too many exceptions and loopholes to the emissions cap, but there is still six days to urge the feds to eliminate them.
