The first Tuesday in November and it's #MelbourneCupDay.

Teachers at schools across Australia would tune into the radio broadcast and we'd listen to the race.

In those days there were still teachers who'd give a student an #EarlyMark and they could leave school early. Yeehaa.

There were also teachers who'd have the cricket radio broadcast playing when the headmistress or headmaster was out of hearing.

FYI for overseas people, the Melbourne Cup is an annual horse race, run over 3.2kms, being famous as the 2 mile race. It's currently just on 30C/86F, with thunderstorms due at the time of the race.
7 horses have died during this race in the past 9 years.
It needs to stop.
