Mumford’s megamachine can be read as a historical figuration of Althusser’s mode of production: a structured arrangement of productive forces, relations of production, and ideological superstructures aimed at the centralized control of vital flows. “Mode of production” remains the more general concept; “megamachine” names the concrete techno-political form it takes in specific historical contexts. #philosophy #policalPhilosophy #megamachine #modeOfProduction

So, who wants to quit the #megamachine, build a #solarpunk #ND, #disability friendly #autonomous #regenerative #intentionalcommunity in woods, grow abundent food, medicine, trees to share with whoever needs it, host people who need a place to be, help heal whoever needs to heal, actually have time and spoons to enjoy living?
Not looking for arguments.
Seeking dreamers to live simply, learn skills, be uncomfortable, enjoy music, stories, art, campfires, singing, howling at the moon

#Mumford #MediaEcology #MegaMachine: "What follows is a, rather lengthy, introduction to Mumford’s idea of “the megamachine.” It is offered here not in an attempt to counter the discussions around surveillance capitalism or the technocene or techno feudalism or TESCREAL but to hopefully add a little more historical depth to some of those concepts. Or, at the very least, to help place some of those more recent concepts into a longer trajectory of attempts to make sense of technological society. After all, ours is not the first period during which people have felt overwhelmed by the growing power of technology (and those close to technology)—and as we look at the present, and try to imagine what comes next, we should not forget the importance of looking behind us.
There is much can be said about our present technological situation. Indeed, there is much being said about our present technological situation. But as Mumford’s megamachine makes clear, we can’t say that nobody tried to warn us."

> The End of the Megamachine brings to light the roots of the destructive forces threatening the future of humankind today. While the first part leads us to the very origins of economic, military and ideological power 5000 years ago, the second and key part retraces the formation and expansion of the modern world-system through the last 500 years. Dismantling Western progress mythologies, #FabianScheidler shows..

@MisuseCase @AnarchoNinaWrites I'm afraid we will eventually experience real overpopulation - when agriculture collapses due to climate chaos and environmental mayhem. Unless we can somehow kill Capitalism 100% dead (no resurrections whatsoever) very soon, this planet will at some time (probably not much later than 2060, but possibly already in the 2030s) suddenly only support 60% of the actual population even if they all switch to eating almost exclusively plants. People will be dying from hunger all over the planet, probably even in the rich countries. The damage to the biosphere as a whole and the decline of the Machine Age will at some point reduce the human carrying capacity of this planet significantly, which was roughly 10-11 billion in the Noughties before things began to drift sideways.
I'm doing my part in helping the white Übermenschen who started all this bullshit go extinct by not having any children. I don't expect any sufficiently radical changes in the few years we might still have before the death of billions becomes inevitable. Only when the #megamachine begins to stutter and lose more and more of its functions, people will make changes that even stand a chance of making a difference, but by then, we will only be able to slow the decline, not stop it. If we don't get slaughtered by the fascists first, that is - as soon as people really understand that we are past the tipping points and the ship is sinking, some apocalyptic breed of eco-fascism will raise its ugly head, deciding who can live a decent life, and who gets to die for the common good.
The last Nazis murdered millions, the next are going to murder billions.

Thanks for sharing, didn't it come out early in the pandemic that US funded research at the #WuhanInstituteOfVirology, (#WIV) or is this FOIA lawsuit by #TheIntercept shed new light on the fact that they were researching #coronavirus, and doing #gainOfFunction work in this area. What we are finding is that the #corporateState have been able to function without input from those who adhere to #ethics and standards.
