Grrr I couldn't get mednafen under RISC OS to work.
Probably because the binary dates back to 2013 and isn't ARM 7 compatible.😞
Edit: copy the rcfiles into !unixhome and then it'll work.
This is what the error "sdl is not configured for threads"apparently means....
Edit2: spell name right
> One of the first things I do when I’m mapping out how a game works is to label where it stores input data. I usually find this by diffing memory snapshots with #RALibetro’s Memory Inspector (see this article).
> Congo stores the most recently pressed button at address 06085974. I set a read breakpoint for that address in #Mednafen’s debugger to find what buttons the game is looking for. This led me to this function
Since modern #RetroGamingHandhelds are essentially small #Linux machines, I can set #Mednafen to take screenshots and put them in a folder that gets synced to a big PC. Neat!
Specifically, with #ROCKNIX on #RGCubeXX, I changed mednafen.cfg:
```
command.take_snapshot joystick 0x4ed02f893c2a5ffb0004001100000000 button_10 && joystick 0x4ed02f893c2a5ffb0004001100000000 button_1
filesys.path_snap /storage/roms/screenshots/
```
button_10 + button_1 = M + A, same as with Duckstation.
i think i messed something up with mednaffe. i didn't realize how disc switching worked so i only just now have an m3u of the 4 discs of FF9 (wouldn't read the actual discs from my drive for some reason so i'm using cue/bin files).
so now i'm in a situation where i have a Final Fantasy IX (Disc 1) etc etc save… and a Final Fantasy IX (the m3u) save. i can't access my just-reached-the-end-of-disc-1 save when i open the m3u.
am i out of luck? do i need to replay disc 1? or is there some workaround? web search is not helping me
Hmm getting a PSX emulator in EmulationStation/RetroPie that doesn’t fall back to software on the Pi 5 seems tricky 😬 - anyone blazing a trail with emulation on the Pi 5 and know any secret incantations? #retropie #mednafen #Emulation
I like playing #emulated #platformers with the "state rewind" feature of #mednafen active.
Is there a modern #platformer where rewinding time is part of the #game mechanics?
#Mednaffe is a GUI for #Mednafen.
Mednaffe serves as an easy to use launcher and configuration tool for the Mednafen emulation suite. Mednaffe only relies on GTK and Mednafen, and runs on both #Linux and #Windows. Mednaffe supports all of Mednafen's supported platforms, and does not interfere with in-emulator configuration.

#Mednafen is a multi system #emulator.
Mednafen is a video #game emulator that is based on code from several other open source emulators. Mednafen provides a simple, consistent interface for playing games from many #Nintendo and #Sega systems as well as the Apple II, #Atari Lynx, and many others. Mednafen supports graphical effects, controllers, and can be finely tuned using configuration files.

I'm now compiling some #C++ because #mednafen was crashing on #SymphonyOfTheNight. Oh yeah, my life has come to this because I watched the #Castlevania animated series and got a hankering for some source material with less explicit gore.
How's everyone else's weekend coming along?
Well, that's not so bad. There are five PSX roms I need to get new copies of because Mednafen doesn't like them. But otherwise, it seems to run like a charm.
Time to uninstall RetroArch I guess. Good riddance.
Aha! I managed to conquer the beast!
Turns out you have to click in a very precise spot on each entry to remap a key in Mednafen. Very tricky of them.
Although it's weird, it detected my 360 controller automatically for PSX games, but not for any other system. Not sure how that came about.
