I started AGAIN today trying to find out how to get a Medicare plan and drop my Medicare Advantage plan. I have now tried 8 times online to find the name of A company that has Medicare in Arizona. And worse yet 3 “independent” insurance sites led me specifically to my own existing Advantage insurer. I can’t even find a LIST I Arizona so I can start making calls after 8 am.

There is some kind of rotten enmeshment going on that I can’t even find a list. Does this mean the whole state has only got Medicare Advantage? Notice what happened in the screenshot when I attempted to ask medicare.gov

How interesting. If I had not called my Member Services rep of my health insurance today and gotten ahold of a young, maybe inexperienced staff from Blue Cross Blue Shield, maybe I wouldn’t know now that beginning January 1, there is a NEW deductible for any prescription medications. I have to pay $385 IN JANUARY before I can have any insurance coverage on ANY of my meds. I kept asking questions and that little nugget slipped out. I haven’t got any plans to have surgery or ER visits in 2026, but who knows, I may be unlucky and have thousands more in copays for services.

I take 6 daily meds. These are necessary meds, not optional. 2 are costing me $100 EACH MONTH copay, each prescription, because insurance has them as “out of Formulary” as “Tier 4” drugs. So $2,400 cash out of my Social Security “income”. This “income” is a benefit because I ALREADY PAID INTO SOCIAL SECURITY for over 50 years. I’ve been paying for this each year from every job I had FOR FIFTY YEARS.

Back to my concern about paying for medication I need. In 3 weeks it will become almost $3,000 a year for 2 meds ($385 deductible + $2,400) that I have to pay for. And I’m lucky (?) to have Medicare ADVANTAGE insurance and lucky to have Blue Cross Blue Shield as opposed to some other insurance? And for the privilege of having this insurance a monthly government-required member fee of $172 a month comes straight out of my monthly Social Security check. I have no choice in this. But hey, my insurance tells me all the time how great it is I have Medicare ADVANTAGE. I’m pissed. I have only 2 more business days to research finding a different insurance company. Or I take a chance and get insurance somewhere that will LET ME get just Medicare instead of Medicare ADVANTAGE. I could be denied because of my medical history.

Here’s the corker: Trump’s federal government wants to cut back even further any medical coverage by Medicare. In addition to the billions of dollars in cuts already agreed to in Congress. Cuts the public still doesn’t know will be made and when they will take effect. How will they will be decided on as to what is cut? Is the Trump federal government just going to stop benefits when it wants to? Are medications included in the billions of dollars of cuts, or services? Or both?

Anyone considering Medicare vs. Medicare “Advantage” should think carefully. “MA” is a private insurance company, financially incentivized to DENY everything. Regular Medicare is WAY BETTER, in my opinion.

So all you newly retired people getting sucked in by enrolling into any Medicare Advantage program should keep in mind where the money for buying a lot of prime time AND off-prime time spot space comes from, because that's the same reason why they like to habitually deny coverage once you've been caught as a customer.

Rep David Schweikert, has introduced a bill to force all new #Medicare enrollees into a #MedicareAdvantage plan starting Jan 2028, essentially eliminating the public insurance trust that Medicare was designed to be. I am asking you to make sure this bill dies in committee.

Medicare Advantage is not true Medicare. The corporate insurance giants claim to serve Medicare patients but use prior authorizations to decide what care a patient can receive. The insurance companies do not have to use any approved standard for medically necessary. They are permitted to use their own internal data to override doctors. They create fake networks of doctors to lure patients in, patients who later find that their doctor or hospital of choice is no longer in network.

Nearly every corporate insurance provider of Medicare Advantage has been fined by the US Government for fraud, and despite promising to lower costs, Medicare Advantage costs the US taxpayer $88 billion more a year than Medicare. This is not something that should be the only choice for seniors.

The Medicare Advantage experiment has to end. Allowing corporate profit to play a role in the delivery of healthcare has not resulted in additional savings to the taxpayer or better health for seniors.

The Center for Health and Democracy's study on UnitedHealth Group demonstrates why for-profit companies should not be involved in healthcare. UnitedHealth is enriching shareholders via my tax dollars and I want you to end this waste and abuse of taxpayer money.

Even though UnitedHealthcare has three times more people enrolled in commercial plans for people under 65 than in its Medicare Advantage plans, it reported almost twice as much revenue for its Medicare business in 2024 ($139.5 billion) than from its commercial customers ($74.5 billion).

UnitedHealth also reported more revenue from Medicaid in 2024 ($80.6 billion) than from its commercial health plans.

Altogether, 75% of UnitedHealthcare’s U.S. revenues of $295 billion in 2024 came from federal and state taxpayers.

The company acquired more than 200 additional clinical operations in 2024. Few patients are aware that their doctors a part of a publicly traded company that has a legal obligation to maximize shareholder value, not provide patient care.

I am asking you to claw back these taxpayer dollars that UnitedHealth counts as profit. If you can claw back social security payments from individuals, you can claw back profits paid to corporations.

I am also asking you to fight efforts to make Medicare Advantage the default enrollment option for Medicare.

I am asking you to oppose any bill like H.R. 3467 (sponsored by Representative David Schweikert R-AZ) that will force every new Medicare enrollee into a Medicare Advantage Plan starting in 2028.

Medicare Advantage plans do not save the government money. Even the insurance companies admit this. They charge 15-20% overhead (as compared to Traditional Medicare's 2%), and they do not keep their patients any healthier than Traditional Medicare. Nearly every major insurance company has been charged with fraud for up-coding patients to garner more reimbursements. They deny treatment for no valid medical reason, and they waste hospital administrator's time with constant paperwork demands.

The entire premise of Medicare Advantage was that it would save the government money. It has not. MA has cost upwards of $20 billion a year additional over what Traditional Medicare would have cost.

Project 2025 named the full privatization of Medicare as a goal, and now they are trying it. I am asking you to vote no on any bill that would make Medicare Advantage the default for Medicare.

During the eye exam appointment, I saw three separate little old ladies being told that their " #MedicareAdvantage " vision plan didn't cover their visit today.

I think of all those Medicare Advantage commercials talking about the extra vision benefits. Shame.

One little old lady almost cried when they gave her her bill. It was several hundred dollars. They told her her Medicare Advantage plan only covered an annual courtesy wellness eye exam, which she had previously that resulted in this follow-up appointment.

I have a pinched nerve in my neck causing me intense pain.

I miraculously was able (I thought) to make an appointment last week for tomorrow thru my #MedicareAdvantage #HMO with a new doctor.

They just called me.

Since I'd be a "New" patient I was told, "a 15 minute visit would not be long enough", forcing me to reschedule with a different doctor who can't see me until Jan 16th. 😞

More than two weeks. I'm in intense pain and must wait more than two weeks to see someone. 🤬

I have nothing particularly good to say about Mehmet Oz. But I am a Medicare Advantage subscriber. I've enjoyed the benefits for years. It gives me all the features of regular medicare that are important to me, plus very important additional benefits.

So what's the problem?
