  16. A re-#introduction for new Mastodon users:

I'm an associate professor at #Oslo Metropolitan University working at the intersection of #STS, #CulturalSociology, #MedicalSociology, and #MediaStudies

I'm currently studying the use of #telepresence #robots in school (and #digitalization processes in the public sector more generally)

    Other hashtags: #sociology #commodon #QualitativeResearch, #ethnography, #SocialTheory, #theorizing, #rituals, #expertise, #knowledge, #professions, #technology

  17. Hello! Second #introduction from me, due to switching server. I'm a qualitative social scientist. Interested in people’s experiences of health & illness & how health and social services respond.

I’m a bit of an academic philanderer, failing to commit to any one social/ medical science.

    Toots on: #Qualitativeresearch| Creative #methods| #MedicalSociology| #Publichealth #Masculinities| #Inequalities| #Identities| Chronic illness|#Marginalised groups|#nhs

Looking forward to forging new bonds!

  18. Lovely to hear that lots of folks from #academia have been migrating over the past few days to become part of #macademia. The #introduction post, including hashtags, will help us find you. I’m keen to build connections with others interested in #QualitativeResearch #HealthSociology #MedicalSociology #HealthServices. I am starting some new work, connected to children and #SocialCare tomorrow, so I am also looking forward to learning lots about this area from wise(r) colleagues. #AcademicMastodon

  24. My #introduction: I am a medical sociologist at William and Mary, whose research focuses on the intersection of racialization, immigration, and health. My work includes some historical demography (to study early immigrants in the early 1900s), some machine learning (to study MENA Americans when they don't have a box to check), and some cross-national comparison (mostly in Europe).

  26. Being a very involved grandparent promotes the well-being among grandfathers but not among grandmothers where daily caretaking of grandchildren leads to a reduction in wellbeing. This is an interesting finding from a new study by Leimer & van Ewikj utilising data from SHARE.

The study finds that grandchildren overall contributes to a slightly lower quality of life contradictory to the idea that grandparenthood is joyous and a positive life event - the authors interpret this a evidence of role strain. @sociology #medicalsociology @publichealth sciencedirect.com/science/arti?
