The current videogame industry landscape is looking bleak. It is likely that:
- You will be forced to move away from your friends and family.
- You won’t have a chance to do anything original. Too risky!
- You will have to design for an exploitative business model.
- You won't get enough time to finish the game before release.
- Your game won’t have credits.
- You’ll keep adding to the game until it’s bursting at the seams.
- Your game won't have a physical release.
- Your game’s servers will shut down and it will stop working.
- Your game will disappear from online stores.
- You'll get online abuse by players.
- You’ll still get laid off.

From all the layoffs in the games industry in the last few years (including where I work!), I think the ones at Mediatonic hit me the hardest.
In most big layoffs there tends to be a failure or misstep that people can spot and it helps to rationalize things. It’s a consequence, or looks like one at least.
In this case I don’t see anything like that. They made a game which turned out to be a big hit, were bought by Epic, kept it going steady, successfully changed the business model to make it more accessible, had recently released user generated content tools. Doesn’t matter. Still most of them got laid off. It really feels like nobody is safe.
