good interview with two good dudes who really know what they're talking about (@gilduran.com + david z morris) going through epstein's deep and persistent involvement with #bitcoin/#crypto from the very earliest days. (ICYMI epstein was sending emails about how one of his life goals was to make a lot of money in #virtualcurrency in 2009 just as bitcoin was invented, he met the core dev team in 2011, and he started paying all the developers' salaries ca. 2015).
epstein didn't really understand "the tech" but the #EpsteinFiles make it very clear he was miles ahead of all the 25 year old anarchist crypto bros he was emailing with as far as appreciating how crypto could be used for financial crimes like #moneylaundering.
there's a bunch of emails where Epstein advises some crypto bro about things like how to not pay taxes or how to avoid getting arrested for #moneylaundering or #BankSecrecyAct violations.

#EpsteinFiles: not only did Jeffrey #Epstein fund the entire bitcoin development team at #MIT Media Lab from 2015-????, he took a special interest in Madars Virza, co-founder of the "privacy coin" ZCash (#ZEC).
#ZCash “fixes” the main issue with bitcoin, at least for people like Jeffrey Epstein. Zcash transactions are encrypted / private and therefore nothing about them is publicly visible in a block explorer¹ (and therefore any suspicious large transactions would not even be noticed).
ZCash, (unlike #Monero / #XMR, its prime competitor in the “privacy coin” space), is not an open source project. It’s privatized secret money created by a corporation. That corporation (Electric Coin Co.) also just so happens to have been funded by DCG, the crypto VC fund Larry Summers sat on the board of for 7 years after being introduced to Brock Pierce by Jeffrey Epstein. ZCash is actually one of #DCG’s flagship investments 🤔
Hard not to think that Epstein wasn’t meeting with #MadarsVirza to make a few “feature requests” that would make #ZCash more useful for people like Jeffrey #Epstein.
(it’s also worth at least mentioning that all of the cryptoverse’s biggest cretins like the #Winklevoss twins, Naval, Emperor Shillbertine, etc. started pushing ZCash HARD a month or two ago as the “true” bitcoin, but that’s probably a subject for a separate post)
¹ though a lot of people think the transactions are visible to #ElectricCoinCo via a backdoor, which is v. different from Monero. i haven't done the work to have an opinion on whether that's true or not, but a lot of bros call ZCash some variant of "CIAcoin"

For the #EpsteinFiles curious among you, I really do recommend you read the man's text messages. Especially the text messages to/from Epstein's bestie #SteveBannon. While you're there you can also read about how Jeffrey Epstein was funding the #bitcoin core development team starting from around 2015 at #MIT (possibly until his death).
Also made some improvements to the Epstein text messages page:
- Highlighted important names ("trump", "jabor", "brock", "#bitcoin", "#SaudiArabia", "#Israel", etc)
- Deanonymized (with help) as many of the #Epstein emails as I could manage based on various kinds of clues, including the signature lines.
- Added an "Other Files" section at the bottom with preview text + links to raw files that are neither emails nor iMessage log files.
- Various other forms of analysis (common signatures, author counts, etc)
i'm really enjoying posting screenshots of Bannon inviting Epstein to the movies on Bannon's insane right wing War Room tweets. his audience Really Does Not Like the fact that the two were so close and communicated so much.

Yesterday saw the weaponized deployment of Intergalactic Quality™ GIFs, ones so big and with so much detail that each one caused the servers to shudder.
Today it looks like they're going for a different sort of shudder, as the front page is just boobs. Lots of boobs. It's like an 11 year old's search results.

I've been a regular visitor for years now and have watched the site's readership steadily decline since the #MediaLab takeover. This is the latest stage of a slow death. Don't know what I'm going to replace it with. There are precious few web sites left that are purely fun....

When I decided to disconnect from all social media a few years back (before joining here) the one site that I kept was #Imgur
If you are unaware, Imgur got bought out by a company called MediaLab recently, and they fired almost all the existing staff and replaced them with AI which has been failing as constantly as AI is want to fail.
Over the weekend Notifications broke, and when people tried to protest the AI started banning people and images, and it has now devolved into a multi-day protest of people spamming this image to the front page.
The worst part is that the reason John is the face of the revolution is that the image with him was being actively banned by Medialab's AI moderators
So by banning him, he became the face of the revolution, which will almost certainly draw the real him to do a scathing expose about Medialab
They did done do a Streisand Effect on themselves

Dear Computer History people: I'm searching for books covering the history of the MIT Media Lab.The only one I found so far is "The Media Lab" by Stewart Brand, released in 1988. So a bit dated. Are you aware of other titles, which also cover the time AFTER 1988? It might be titles on other subjects but with a significant amount on the MIT Media Lab.
