  1. Please consider buying #FindingtheRightWords: A Story of Literature, Grief, and the Brain, published by #jhupress while it's being discounted. The #memoir is about my father's early-onset #Alzheimer's, which I wrote with #neurologist Dr. Bruce Miller. Readers have said it captures the complexities of #grief that often accompany #dementia, & the #neurology behind the many diseases (#FTD, #CTE, et al.) comprising #dementia. #EndAlz, #medhums, #litstudies, #narrativemedicine weinsteinandmiller.com

  4. At #TrinityCollegeDublin last month, I had the honor of participating in #CreativeBrainWeek. Here is a link to the presentation I gave about the #imagination, along with Professor Elspeth Payne's contribution and moderated by Professor Eve Patten. #litstudies, #medhums youtube.com/watch?v=77GAU6Tdp9

  6. There's something happening in #Persuasion about the gendered experience of pain that I find fascinating; I don't think it's just a part of #sensibility. But it's also not the argument of this chapter, so I'm trying to note it and move on. #MedHums

  7. "The book’s clear portrayal of the manifestations of a relatively poorly known form of Alzheimer’s disease, its documentation of the established certainties of the disease, and its definition of the boundaries of the different forms of dementia, are equally helpful for lay people, general doctors, and neurologists. The book’s free-flowing and unrestrained narrative, and its human angle chronicle, are refreshing, and I recommend it to all doctors."#medhums #EndAlz thedoctorsbookshelf.com/2023/0

  8. I am honored to be talking about #FindingtheRightWords on Monday, April 3 with Dr. Mark Kissler at the #Anschutz Center for Bioethics and Humanities. #narrativemedicine, #medhums

  9. Thank you on behalf of me and #neurologist Dr. Bruce Miller for this kind review of #FindingtheRightWords. #medhums

This is a very insightful book, moving and compelling; it gives an honest account of what happens when somebody you love suffers from Alzheimer. It combines feelings, science, and practical advice. Highly recommended.

  10. Currently reading Rachel Ablow's phenomenal #Victorian Pain and thinking about the knowability of pain and the relationship to social belonging--in many ways it's still a question of whose pain is recognised as such, as well as a question of whose speech is recognised as such. #MedHums

  11. March 6-11 is #CreativeBrainWeek at #TrinityCollegeDublin. I am so honored to be a part of this event with friends and colleagues. On the 8th, I'll be presenting on the "Imagination," and specifically how my love, most importantly for my father, and of #literature, too, helped me write, with #neurologist Dr. Bruce Miller, Finding the Right Words. #medhums, @litstudies #EndAlz

  13. So grateful that the Kingfisher Institute for the Liberal Arts and Professions invited me to join their panel last night on Population Health. I got to talk about Benedict Anderson and how the concept of population inherently asks questions about #governmentality and #biopolitics. Then we used #Dickens’s Bleak House for an example. #MedHums #MedicalHumanities

  14. I wrote Finding the Right Words with #neurologist Dr. Bruce Miller hoping that telling my father's story of #early-onset #Alzheimer's Disease would help others. Thank you #Adolfo Garcia for these amazingly generous words. 💜 #medhums, #EndAlz

  15. Today I'm asking my Literature and Medicine students to look at the illnesses and deaths of Bessy Higgins and Mrs. Hale in order to develop a thesis that explores the role of the Social Determinants of Health in these illnesses and deaths #MedicalHumanities #MedHums

  16. I've been asked to be part of a panel on "population health" and so I'm looking for your favourite scene/excerpt from a novel that displays a population--I'm leaning towards something like Bleak House, but what comes to mind when you think of population in literature? #MedHums #MedicalHumanities #PopulationHealth

  18. I'm honored to be talking this Friday about #caregiving, #grief, #dementia, and #FindingtheRightWords at the #Canterbury Senior Residence in #PalosVerdes. This book with #Dr.BruceMiller of #UCSF has many audiences, and we had all of them in mind as we wrote it. Those with #dementia and #caregivers are among the most important (#doctors and #litstudies people, #medhums, too), but we especially hope to reach the ones loving and caring everyday for people with dementia. #EndAlz

  21. #History matters. #Science matters. #Evidence matters. I spend my time finding human stories behind sci/tech and bringing them to the public, because #publicengagement is how we build bridges and support #SocialJustice. It’s why #humanities and #medhums matter, too.
