He'd arrived from Scotland in 1839 with his wife Marion and six children. Light Wines was founded by Lloyd Light at Chandlers Hill in 1969. Designed by Doug Collett, it was one of Australia’s most modern wineries, able to handle 750 tonnes with just one operator.
In 1983 it was renamed Coolawin Estate, with Brian Light taking over as winemaker. The 5000-tonne site later became part of Norman’s Wines, then Xanadu, then Fleurieu Vintners — and today is owned by Watkins Wines.
