Amusingly, after playing A Love Supreme (which had only been recorded with Rudy Van Gelder seven months before), the promoters requested that they play "more familiar material" the following nights.
If only they knew.
A bit more space here to say that Charly was able to reconstruct the full A Love Supreme, which takes up 3 sides of the 4LP set.

John Coltrane Quartet - France 1965: The Complete Concerts
This is going to be a Coltrane-heavy year, given his centenary, and RSD26 has a few releases to mark the occasion.
This 4LP set documents the two concerts the Quartet did in France during their week-lone stint in Europe.
This is well known for being the quartet's *only* live, full recording of A Love Supreme (reconstructed by Charly).

On March 6th, 2020: #McCoyTyner, American jazz pianist (John Coltrane Quartet), died at 81.
#RIP 💔🕊️ -
OK, how about some more of the John Coltrane Quartet, augmented with a brass section arranged by Eric Dolphy and McCoy Tyner, representing wildlife? Dense, layered, modal, gorgeous. Listen to "Africa" (1961):
#JohnColtrane (tenor)
#McCoyTyner (piano)
#ReggieWorkman (bass)
#ElvinJones (drumming)and more!, if you check Wikipedia.

So what would happen if you put Wayne Shorter in front of John Coltrane's rhythm section? Blue Note records asked this question! Listen to "Twelve More Bars to Go," from "Juju" (1965):

Listen to "Dear Lord" (1965) by the John Coltrane Quartet. I first heard this on the LP "Transition." It forms the most gentle interlude between two hugely powerful compositions. I hope you can feel the restrained power and energy of this band.
