So I have a technology artifact from #1999. A #maxtor Diamondpoint #pata #ide hard drive. I've used it on and off between 1999 and 2020 (when I retired it). The #SMART #power_on_hours for this thing are: 137478! That's 15.69 years of up time on that drive. :) It's run everything from old RedHat (not RHEL), Windows Millennium, Fedora, Gentoo, Debian and Ubuntu. And it's still works. It has that old fashioned whine... This thing is a juggernaut!

Current mission, recycle, repurpose or recoil! That iMac has a glitchy screen, Logic/MBoard issue? There's maybe a slim chance I could install and run minimal Debian on it for 'something'. Yes, that's a MKI AppleTV you can see. Three laptops and misc hard drives (even an IDE).

Un SSD #samsung da 256G dedicato a backup del blog, ISO varie ed eventuali: roba che se perdo poco importa.

Per #backup ho 1 #maxtor #usb3 che collego al bisogno.Il setup è ok, ma penso di mettere un disco meccanico da 4T in locale dedicato al backup incrementale ( #kup o #timeshift ) e poi questo lo copierò sul Maxtor esterno.

Someone should invent a noisemaker that makes random #HardDrive sounds and what noise it makes is configurable based on a selected drive brand and type, so you could have it be #Seagate #Exos, WD Blue, #Maxtor, small laptop ones, 5.25-inch and larger ones, iPod- and Zune-sized ones, etc. This could be run on its own or connected to the hard drive indicator LED pins to make noise when a drive is accessed.
